becareful not to get the oil in their nostrils :budgiedance:. Let us know what happens at the avian vet. Mites are contagious so if your 1 bird has it your other one might too so let the vet know if you have 2 and see if he wants to treat both but see one or see both :ausb:.

Stacey I would love to see your birds but when I click on the links it goes right to the home page of photobucket you may need to make your album public where we can see the individual pics. That would be found under control options or member options.

  6. Welcome to our forums glad you read around and quaratined your new baby. Karen started about a post about why to quaratine and she lost alot of her flock to megabacteria. Anyways, does he like millet? That is a good fattening dry snack . We have some excellent information in the faq's about food and nutrition you can click http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...tion=show&cat=5
  7. oh hugs Shawna Lucas is SO brave, give him a big hug from us Keep us updated on everything Is your mom taking some of your birds? You are a brave mom and Happy Mom's Day coming up to you.
  8. If you breed 2 green normals and they were both split for blue you would have a 25% chance of getting a blue. If you breed 1 green not split and 1 green split to blue you will get all green babies and 50% of the green babies would be split for blue. If you breed 2 green birds not split for blue you will always have green babies that are also not split to blue Is that what you are looking for? Sometimes the normal gene is dominant over another gene and other times it is recessive it depends what gene it is being paired up against.
  9. A normal a bird that is a typical green or blue budgie there is no "fancy" mutations invovled.
  10. First you need to build trust with her and then you can go to the next step. Here are some ideas . Building Trust: This is the first step when y ou are working on taming. Your budgie needs to know that you will not hurt it in anyway. The best way to gain trust is to work with your budgie daily. Many articles say 15 minutes a day is all you need I have found that to be untrue. I always advise members to spend as much time as you can on a daily basis with your budgie. The more you work with your budgie on a daily basis the faster you will build trust with your new friend. When your budgie trusts you it is a wonderful feeling. There are many different ways you can form a trusting relationship with your budgie. Talk to them all the time when they are in and out of their cage. In fact when Pretty was in a smaller cage and I could move it I would take him from room to room with me he was always by us. Do not push training if you find they are fearful of a certain action stop immediately. They are simply not ready. Food is a huge motivator and by using their favorite snack such as millet it speeds up the bond. If your budgie first doesn’t eat from you that is okay they don’t know if you are giving them poison you will notice the more you talk with them and are around them they will relax and before you know it may take a nibble. It takes time don’t expect them to automatically eat they are not like dogs that snatch food they must trust you first. Always feed your budgie from your fingers many times you will see pictures of people feeding budgies from their mouth this is actually harmful for the bird. Human saliva has bacteria that can get your budgie sick. (this is a part of my article I am writing up for the taming section (Laughing out loud) so bare with me as I continue to write and get this edited by feathers and posted soon)
  11. Una you need to make a bird talking tape and sell it (Laughing out loud) feathers and I will buy it for sure . I agree if anyone can teach them Apple will. Pretty did the whistle but not Merlin yet
  12. It is hard to tell the mutations of some because of the way you are holding them Baby 1 is a beautiful blue you will need to take a front and back picture of him Baby 2 Yellow Face Grey Spangle (2 or 1 not sure yet wait until he feathers up more a bit) looks like it will be a 2 though As with sexing I leave that to the experts that can sex them at a young age
  13. hugs I am sorry to hear about your loss
  14. Beautiful Birds As feathers said if she has red eyes a lutino but if dark eyes with no iris ring then a Darke Eyed Clear. She would not be a recessive pied. Pictures of the front of your birds in question and the back in natural light with no shadows and such would help figure them out better for sure. Congrats!
  15. he is just simply an amazing little guy Una so it was Cheeky not Chucky
  16. he is so clever I love the farty noises and Munchy whatcha doing What else was he saying I tried to pick it up better Who is chippy and I love the laughing everytime i play it merlin sings back (Laughing out loud) I will just keep playing it and see if merlin starts saying whatcha doing I would love to see them all talking too (hint hint)
  17. Talk talk talk to her (Laughing out loud) as you are. Is she hand tamed? If so have her out with you as much as possible. You really do the same thing with the little ones as you do the big ones but sometimes it takes the littles one to warm up more to humans . By the way welcome to our site, we have a lot of great members, a wonderful FAQ section and presently we are working on a taming article . Do you have a picture of the little one maybe we can help out out with her age.
  18. The grey one we will have to see how it feathers up. If a grey it most likely is a greywing which means both the parents carry the greywing gene because it is recessive too. If these are the only 2 babies you had the recessive genes pop out in both cases. It is amazing you didn't get a normal like the dad .
  19. Then if neither one of the parents are dominant pieds I would agree that the first one is a recessive pied so you can mark in your notes that both parents are split for the recessive pied gene. He is a gorgeous boy
  20. So he looks like my Merlin in my siggy? He is actually a dominant pied because he has a spot on the back of his head but he looks like a normal violet in the pics. The mom has no other mutations just opaline yes?
  21. What other mutation is the cock? normal, dominent pied? etc...
  22. It could be a double factor pied too? I personally would wait until they feather up more. What where the parents? If you could post them that would be wonderful.
  23. sounds like things are progressing right along feathers
  24. Neat it could be anything birds are so delicate. Keep us updated with your avian vet appointment.
  25. Ann that cage is the same exact one I have except I have it in green vein, they will love it. Just think Merlin is in that cage all my himself now
