  5. beautiful birds, blues are so hard to photograph the best I can do with Merlin since he too is a violet is wait till he is in the daylight but not directly in the sun or in a shadow. That then shows more of the true color he is.
  6. Elly replied to Lady's topic in Breeding Journals

Most birds will take off and bump into the walls even and that is good you are closing the curtains. As Aly said start with a small room alot of people use bathrooms (with the toilet lid down of course) because it is small.
  10. What a super cute pictures!!! Congrats :rip:
  11. It has been pinned so easier to find, but our FAQ officer can put it in the FAQ section....Elly ? will do :rip:

    welcome
  15. good to hear Gary
  16. Before you start rescue I believe you need to hook up with a RSCPA or a shelter first that works with birds as Nerwen said. That way when you do get started you have someone to work with. Another thing you can do which is what many shelters need are foster homes like Robin (Pheobe) does. She pulls alot of her fosters off of craigslist that are free and rehabs them or quarantines them until they can go to the rescue. Therefore the money for health care is on the rescue and you can enjoy fosters and helping out. Rescues is very hard emotionally, finanically and more and it takes a very special person and you may be just that person. Those would be my first steps
  17. Click on the FAQ section, there are pictures of Daz's breeding cabinets etc... Good advice on here to heed though and I agree
  18. what a beautiful bird, I agree with Kaz those white nostrils are very defined
  19. I am glad to hear that your bird is getting better and was dx and treated correctly. What is nice about this forum is that you get a lot of good advice that you can take back to your avian vet and brainstorm. I know when I took in Merlin after Pretty died he was amazed by how much I knew about budgies. I told him I learned most of it from a community I have been part of for over 2 years now
  20. I would assume the temp would be crucial during the fertizilation process after that it means nothing
  21. I see the post it was a he...still needs to go to the avian vet so he knows
  22. Elly replied to billyboy's topic in Budgie Pictures
    beautiful
  23. Cindy did you flat post them for me , beautiful!
  24. I sounds like you need to take the dead bird (if you haven't disposed of it yet) to the avian vet for an examination so you know what it can be in case it happens. It could have been a prolapsed uterus due to calcium deficiencies.
  25. Very interesting, I haven't have a clue of it is correct. Since the in birds the female determins the sex with the x or y gene it could be that the x or y gene may be harder under certain temp conditions. I have heard in humans different things about creating a boy or girl etc...and it is due to the enviroment within the female. So though they say the dad determine the sex by his genes it always true.
