  1. My experience with Pretty is he was very quiet and he didn't so much at all to be honest the first 6 months. I think personality plays a great deal on how they act. Some people get this birds that are very active, do they antics and you think why not mine? I used to think that and realize that it was his personality as a lone bird. I have a write up in the FAQ section under Budgie Behavior on how I tamed Pretty and how I introduced him to Merlin that I believe would be a good read for you. Pretty was never handled and though he was 3 months when I got him he wanted nothing to do with me literaly for a very long time. Again his personality on the other hand Merlin has tamed quicker because he was handled at a very very young age and that handling continued until I got him. Many birds from the pet stores are never handled and then they are sold to consumers who don't understand that is a bird is not handled frequently at a young age will have the fear of the human hand and humans. Birds are not domesticated as cats and dogs. Yes we breed them and they are in pet stores but they are like any other wild animal out there if they don't have human handling or contact from the beginning they will be more difficult to tame. They can be tamed, I tamed Pretty and he was a gem.
  2. Welcome being a new budgie owner is fun and some times can be frustrating and that is where this forum comes into play. Being here for over 2 years with my first budgie I found this forum to be so informative and supportive. Please look around and up on top you will find the FAQ section which has been expanded greatly. Wonderful information there to answer many questions.
  3. I would intro them as I stated in my previous post and yes they probably will start to get along if she does quarantine and gradually does the introduction.
  4. It is a girl and maybe she is going out of breeding condition so the crusty brown is falling off? I haven't had a hen so I don't know how that happens if it can happen in pieces.
  5. what type of birds are they? I know some wild birds just can't be hand fed there is so much invovled unlike budgies. Sounds like she hates life
  6. Hope things are settling down hugs
  7. yes lets hope so... if she was so concerned about your birds she should have ASKED you first and talked to you about what she ways I hate when people assume
  8. I was going to say the same thing libby said the younger ones tend it nap and do that more often as they grow up it is hard to catch them napping at all .
  9. You could call the general headquarters and ask them procedures or for the guidelines...
  10. Welcome You may want to PM Kaz she has Princess Parrots and could help you on them. Budgies are recommended to be a lone species in a cages or aviaries because they can get quite nasty (especially if you colony breed which is not recommended what is recommended is closed breeding). How many budgies or what to put on the bottom I will let another person more experienced answer who has a large aviary . You can even ask Kaz if you PM her about the Princess Parrots. Again welcome...and check out our FAQ on the top they are CHOCKED full of info.

they are absolutely wonderful great job on a successful clutch You really need to take a picture I LOVE the fluffy cheeks and submit for Budgie of the Month
  12. any cinnamons you have will be females you won't have any male cinnamon they will all be split to cinnamon but won't be visual make sure you write this in the records so you know that for the males .
  13. Elly replied to Vickykh's topic in Budgie Pictures
males will preen each other it is a just like cat cleaning each other no matter the sex of the friend it is very normal. Merlin loved Pretty's preening and his head scratches. I would separate them it is hard I know I had a very tough time if you can put them in rooms where they can't hear it so much but with them together now it may just be fruitless since they have already has so much contact.
  14. both your birds are dominant pied the female looks double factor dominant pied very pretty and that would confirm yes he is a single factor dominant pied like his daddy :budgiedance:
  15. Yes I would say she is a Dominant Pied interesting spot and how low it is but the pied gene can do that :budgiedance:. Where one of the parents a Dominant Pied?
  16. It is always best to slowly introduce new birds together especially I believe older birds. The fight probably started because the budgie prior in the cage felt threatened. It is always best to quarantine any new addition even if she knew where they came from to ensure the new addition is healthy. Illness can be carried by birds but not seen visually until it is too late. During quarantine period the birds will usually hear each other and call and this is a slower way of introduction. After quaratine is over it is always best to keep the new addition in a cage next to the existing flock and then only let them out together during flight time. As you monitor their behavior you can slow work on adding them together. When I intro my 2 birds they would check out each other's cages but I always but them back in their own cage during the day and night. Once they stopped any bickering out during flight time and saw that they were getting along well I would let them together during the day but not night where many fights can break out. Slow process but it eliminates the fighting.

My first concern and I don't want to be a negative nellie is I didn't read a thing about quaranting your newest addition. Maybe I missed the post but you need to quarantine all new birds for at least 30 days from your existing "flock" to ensure your new addition is healthy. Most bird illness can not be seen visually until it is too late. On another note he is very cute and I chose 2 males for the exact same reason as you I didn't want accident breeding without a nest box and have the stress of a female laying eggs which can happen :budgiedance:.
  18. I agree with Norm and Kaz it is more of a way to hide and feel safe as babies too she will probably grow out of that behavior so everything sounds normal. I look forward to seeing a picture of her.
  19. I assume you would like to tame them and grabbing them is probably not the best thing to do. They see your hand is a predator's mouth when you grab so they will fly away. If you would like to tame all three you may think about wing clipping just in the beginning so you have more control of the situation. Here is an excellent article from our FAQ about taming your budgie there are many different ideas that can be used with a sole budgie or more. Click here to Read
  20. Cinnamon is a sex-linked gene If your male is a cinnamon or split to cinnamon he will give his gene to any females he has (if you breed him to a nomal) any males would be normals. To get 100% cinnamons yes breeding him to another cinnamon hen would ensure your results.
  21. We don't have birds like this in any or our pet stores if we did I probably would really have to stay out even more. I have grown to love the exhibition look. Anyways I agree with both Nerwen and Kaz and they are gorgeous.
  22. Oh MY goodness I just read this. Who do you know would have called on the RSPCA on you? It would have to be someone that lives around you and hears the birds and maybe thinks they are loud. I don't understand what concern if they are flighted or not and why he had to handle any of them. How do you know he knows how to hold them correct...as you can see I am very upset and I wasn't even there. There are HORRIBLE pet shops out there and this is what they do with their time

It is in the FAQ section, Aly aka Feathers made it up. I believe it in the General Section .
  24. Type 1 - yellow is restricted to the face area only Type 2 - yellow is on the face and can bleed throughout the chest and body area as they molt out during their first year the yellow bleed usually becomes strong throughout the body and sometimes the YF2 gene can turn a blue bird green making it difficult at times to decifer if you have a true green bird. With this pair your expections are 50% spangles 50% normal patterns 100% yellow face babies 100 Blue Babies All the above can be combined example you can gey a spangle yellowface They will all be type 2.
  25. They are all so beautiful, I wasn't sure if you had more too. I look forward to seeing the new picture
