  1. You must send me the yellow face blues I absolutely love the yellow faces type 1 . Great pics your camera is awesome.
  2. Budgies actually in the wild chew out holes in trees and such to build their nests to this behavior is actually very instinctual . Yes I know, I'm happy they've got fun, but it's horrible as they made many holes in the room , they dig till they get to the bricks and then they carry on to the sides - silly girls. But the plaster is not too deep, so it would be very difficult for them to actually lay in there. But we will put some wood on the whole wall I think Stinky girls...neither one of my boys bother with chewing just preening
  3. If you had that combo you would get a dominant pied split to recessive pied. Anything dominant is said first (because that is the visual part of the bird) so dominant pied split to the blue gene. Since Green is dominant over blue. I hope that makes sense.

  5. Kaz's point is excellent. Our mini pin, Cabela completely ignores Merlin when I am around but I am certain he would snap if given. It always worries me when I read I have this really placid cat with my birds my cats would eat my birds or at least knock them down in a sec. Please keep us updated, don't blame yourself we have all had accidents (myself included).
  6. Welcome to our forums
  7. I had a rabbit they are very awesome and yes clean. I was just worried about the pooping even in one place but I have no doubt that if taken care correctly such as libby is and others that there would not be an issue.

    Welcome to the forums )
  9. I think alot of it has to do is how big the aviary is are you going to be breeding in this aviary (colony) if so this causes issues just between budgies let alone other species. I personally wouldn't put budgies with any other species because of how persnickity they can be (especially some of the hens) but that is me. I have read of people having success and then just the reverse. I think a lot as to do the size of the aviary, the ratio of budgies to what other birds and do be careful because rabbits tend to poop everywhere I would think that would cause bacteria build up in the aviary if not cleaned out consistently.
  10. Also make sure her cage is very very warm birds can seem okay and then die of shock the next minute. Not trying to scare you but keeping her warm is very essential like at least 80F. Kaz has experience on this and how to handle this type of issue if you want to PM her.
  11. if you find them bickering more too you can help control any hormones flying (especially in the spring season and summer because of the longer days is to make sure they are covered for at least 10-12 hours this helps during the hormonal stage for all budgies.
  12. sometimes it is better that way especially if you are not keen on breeding or having babies. Accident clutches can be a diaster in most cases (but not all). I have always stuck with the same sex birds to avoid unwanted babies. .
  13. Millet was always a good starter for me. I would feed chop up everything and sprinkle millet on the top. You may find it can take up to a 1 year to get them to start trying things so don't give up. Also feed birds their veggies when they feed the most which is first thing in the morning therefore by afternoon you can throw away uneaten portions. As fresh veggies/fruits grow bacteria quickly.

Very nice to met you. You remind me of my girlfriend she has 4 children one being very young too. You have a beautiful family.
  21. It will be okay. Birds are sensitive to noises because in the wild when it because quiet it means danger. You will find that the more noise that is happening in your house the louder your budgie (s) will become. Such as when I vacuum, put on the T.V., even raise my voice Merlin tends to get into it with the argument (Laughing out loud). I am yelling and so is the bird. You may think it is because they are upset but it is their nature the louder you are the louder they are. So the house alarm as long as it doesn't go off all the time (which is not even good for humans) is fine. .
  22. I remove the newspaper every other day because I only have Merlin and it doesn't get that dirty. I only clean the grate when I do a through cage cleaning which is once a month. (and it isn't really dirty but do it with maintaince). My suggestion would not work if you have a chewing newspaper budgie BUT it is actually a good thing for them to have fun with shredding paper it is a good enrichment tool. So unless it is completely destroyed a little bit of chewing on the paper is okay.

Welcome to the forum. Your babies are adorable.
  24. How often are you cleaning out the water bowls? It sounds like they are in there days if there is algae growing in them? Water containers must be cleaned out daily with hot soap and water and throughly dried out and then put clean water. Especially if you live in a hot climate you are more prone to bacteria build up.
  25. Welcome to the forums , if you have pics we would love to see them. We also have a contest Feb. Budgie of the Month if you would like to submit a cute picture too.
