Indz, I agree I think they would have been more in torture alive in that situation (I know that is horrible to say out loud). Jimmy, I agree but these type of people impulse buy because their kids want it and don't go futher then that. Saddly they are members of my family and they think I am NUTS with Merlin.

Your birds are gorgeous, welcome. Are you sure your green is a yellow face? I am asking because she looks like a green based bird.

It took me about a week after I found out to share this with you because I am so digusted and it was a family relative that did this unknowningly because they chose (as many do) not to inform themselves or take good advice. I found out from my MIL that a family member had bought 2 budgies for the 2 little girls. Of course my first instinct was OH BROTHER, they can't really control the kids like they need 2 birds. I just knew it was doomed from day 1 (gut feeling). You know that feeling or know those people in your lives right? Anyways, I had not heard anything about the 2 budgies over the last 6 months so when I took Merlin there MIL so happened to tell me that this family had put the 2 budgies in a cage, hung it from the ceiling in the kitchen and within 2 weeks of each other both birds dropped over dead. The family member concluded that it must have gotten too hot in the kitchen and she roasted them. I turned around and informed MIL that was not the case since budgies come from AU that there was more to why these 2 budgies suffered this fate. Fumes in the kitchen are fatal to budgies, the tephlon (that was used for a fact), the fumes from cooking, she in fact used air fresheners, strong cleaning products etc... They died of toxic fumes. When you purchase a budgies please do take it seriously that fumes can and are very harmful to budgies and don't keep them anywhere in or near the kitchen when you are cooking. I used to have Pretty in the kitchen but ONLY when we were done eating and all the fumes were gone. A very sad story indeed and I wanted to share so others can be aware.
  13. He looks like a Double Factor Pied because of the lack of marking but if he is a Recessive Pied because they do have plum eyes then he may be also carrying a clearwing gene that is erasing the markings on his head and wings? When you take a picture of a recessive pied sometimes you can catch that red plum eye color (I used to with Pretty). How old is he?
  14. Make sure you take him to an avian vet not a regular dog and cat vet as they truly are not as knowledagable. The sneezing may be a nervous thing too? Is it fits? Do you hear any wheezing when he flys around and breathes? Any nasal discharge?
  15. ((hugs)) don't feel bad, we all get excited and then sometimes it doesn't happen the way we like.
  16. If you click on the picture it will bring it up bigger and I agree you have a beautiful hen.
  17. Yes we do Kaz . What amazing painting, do you paint for a living?

Dude is gorgeous, I have always loved the Yellow Face Violets , you have you thought of entering him in our Budgie of the Month Contest .
  19. make it no option that he has to sit on your finger to eat the millet now since for a month you have been feeding it to him now is the time to challange him. Put your finger down wher you want him to step up and then put the millet on the opposite side of your finger when he trys to nibble the millet pull it back slightly and push your finger us on his chest the minute he puts even just a foot up and it stays there reward him and then repeat the process. All birds are different, some trust faster then others, we don't know what happened at the pet store where he was and if he was grabbed at and hurt, anything could have happened. We can't worry about what happened though, we have to think about what is happening now and to continue to be patient and encourage you will have a break through I promise.
  20. Have you made a complaint yet? I agree with Sailor when you buy them sick you keep them in business I know it is not the best situation for the bird but for future sells it may or may not make the difference. I would simply not support shopping there anymore and would buy everything else somewhere else. I know eaisier said then done but I did that to a pet store and refuse to go in it now because of the very reason. Will I make a dent in their profit probably not but I know I am doing my part.
  21. does your bird like to be misted with a spray bottle? If not this is a good way to correct if so don't do it because then it will make him not like the misting. Pretty didn't like misting so I used a squirt here and there to stop bad behavior and he got the point quickly.
  22. simply wonderful Kaz, thinking of the future, you both are not nuts but smart investers we all invest in different things .
  23. i am not an expert but can he grasp at all with the foot he will probably be a special needs budgie you can start to do physical therapy with the toes by massaging them, putting your finger in his toes so he can learn to grasp better etc....
  24. how long is quite a while?
