OMG girl I don't know how you do it but I know you will say I just do it, you are SOOO motivated!! Good for you.
  2. Why are you breeding & have a next box in their cage if you know she is not in condition? I am confused on that? As for your questions, he is guarding the box when she is in it and she is preparing the box for laying eggs.
  3. wow Libby that is awesome, good on you!

your welcome, if you work the night shift and home the majority of the day she will do fine as a lone budgie, you know everyone has their opinions and I have read articles with strong opinions against lone budgies but I do believe Merlin is happy, at times I think about a new friend but think about the progress we have made together, I also know what it is to have 2 vs 1 and with 1 budgie you do get more one on one attention with them because you are their focus now, it really is all what you want and are willing to take on. Take your time and again welcome.

I cover Merlin up between 7:30 - 8 pm or he gets really loud and asks to be covered and then uncover him around 7am or now since the kids are home from school when they wake up so he gets is dark time , he is in my office so sometimes I will keep the front uncovered and talk to him before they wake up.
  10. Probably best not to shoot that and post it great picture

Very sorry for your loss. I have been through the same thing, I personally chose to take time with Merlin my existing budgie to tame him down more and get to know him for his personality when Pretty died suddenly last year. Since then I have chose not to get another bird and am very happy with this decision. Merlin was very quiet the first month or so but started to come more and more out of his shell since then he is such a sweetie with me, talks, can't wait to see me etc..I am also home a lot too that is one thing to consider if your budgies is home 8 hours a day alone then considering another budgie friend would be a good idea. Quarantine as mentioned above is very important and should be followed strictly.

    they are cuties
  13. Do remember if you buy another budgie this new budgie must be in quarantine for 30 days don't just put the budgie in with the existing budgies, I mention this because I didn't see anyone else did. Merlin did very well as a lone budgie and they are lonely in the beginning but don't confuse sad and inactivity with possibly being sick, budgies recovery quickly and if the budgie is not active within a week again I would lean toward being sick not depressed.

I have a picture posted on Cage Set-ups through the FAQ's but I got mine on e-bay and it is huge for 1 budgie, I bought it when I had 2 at the time, it could probably fit at least 4-6 , bought it for 100.00 U.S. that included shipping and handling.
  17. he is a DOLL!!
  18. Oh my goodness that is way too cute...birdluv you should use this for a picture competition and submit one of the pictures for Budgie of the Month if you haven't already
  19. my personal opinion no, I do know of 2 people that lost their budgies due to a gas leak or the flame going out, I use an electric heater (non tephlon).
