  1. First I wanted to note that you said you had your new one for a month, from reading that I assume you put them in together the first day? If so please do know there are quarentine procedures that bird owners must follow so you don't introduce any illness into your existing flock. Also during quarentine is an excellent time to tame and bond with your bird. I always suggest to people if you want to 2 bird to wait till the first one has bonded with you. It took Pretty a good 6 months and even up to 9 months to really bond with me, start talking, following me around and more. When I introduced Merlin around the 10 month mark Pretty bonded with Merlin and Merlin bonded with Pretty. I kept most of the bond I had with Pretty but even with taming I never really had Merlin bond to me until after Pretty died. The best thing you can do is work with them together I believe because when you separate them it puts them into an anxiety state looking for their "friend" and you don't get anywhere. Work with the one that responds to you the most, use a lot of food rewards, have them clipped if they are not already, if they are not tamed in the cage first then work on that and then outside of the cage. I wrote up an FAQ about my experience on how I tamed Pretty and worked with Merlin too, you may want to read it. The KEY is don't give up - they will come around but if you do give up they will get wilder and more afraid of you. Your birds are very young so you have a lot to work with.
  2. Neat and Kaz, I am going to add your statements to the FAQ's if you don't mind we have never reallyhad a good explanation of Grit or Not. Very interesting.
  3. Excellent, thanks Liv, I didn't realize that
  4. Welcome, as Liv said we really specialize in budgies and we are not approved as stated on the top of this forum "Topics regarding health and support etc. of other animals besides budgies will be removed. However, feel free to post about your other pets with images etc" I think the best thing you can do is search for a forum dedicated to cockatoo's since they are so different then budgies in terms of size, need, food, health etc... Here is one I found that you can check into http://www.cockatoohome.com/.
  5. hey macka, what happened to your chicks and the outcome? I didn't see an update.

  9. Casper is a hen and the size difference is that Casper is a pet type budgie and Elmo is a show type budgie. The show types tend to be larger in size and the pet types are smaller.

okay that last one just cracked me up, are you going to help Ms. Gloria :budgiedance:
  21. Well it would be 2 different allele's correct? I am going for a shot in the dark and working my way through it maybe Norm has a better explanation or even Neville? Like blue is recessive but you can have a blue dominant pied right? Or like the DEC is a combo of the clearfight (which is dominant) and the recessive pied. So why could this not be a combo too?
  22. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! and think of the times the boards were prune I could have been at even more :budgiedance::, thank you Liv :budgiedance:
  23. If you look at her upper chest she is darker greenish there but the dilution makes it hard to discern I think that she is a Dompied Clear wing - The TCB could be there too I thought at first a dilute cinny too - As hercheek patches are a silvery lilac colour ...Per the standards under the Show Section and other places I have read Clear Wings has violet cheek patches, dark blue tail feathers and full body. The cheek patches & the tail does not match this mutation along with the fact that the body coloring is diluted so you have to have either Clear Wing or Dilute not both because they lay on the same allele. That is my theory of why she couldn't be a clearwing. Description of a black eyed self:A black eyed self bird should have their back, rump, breast flanks and underparts all an even shade of colour throughout. MARKINGS: Faint markings are found on their cheeks, back of head, neck and wings. EYES: Dark with a white iris ring.LIGHT YELLOW (Buttercup) : has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches and a neutral tail feather suffused with ground colour.DARK YELLOW: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches and a neutral tail feather suffused with darker ground colour than that of the Light Yellow variety.OLIVE YELLOW: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches, and a neutral tail feather, suffused with darker ground colour than the Dark Yellow variety.White: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches, and a neutral tail feather with ground colour suffusionThis is the description of them from what Aly posted in mutations and you know Pie, I can agree to with that statement, I always forget about the BES because it is rarer. Hopefully Norm, will see this he does have some.
