Beautiful bird. He (I'm guessing) looks quite a bit like a budgie I had a few years ago named Fourteen. I thought about getting another recessive pied for a while - I really like them.

I love that name for a budgie - Gypsy. I hope that she and Scruffy will be able to work it out. I thought my bird could be a bit tempermental.. but she's never made me bleed and really doesn't hurt if she bites (which she seems to be getting out of). Poor you but I'm sure all those adorable babies must be worth it.

Thanks for sharing your story. It's a good warning for budgie owners. It's unfortunate when these lessons are learned the hard way as in Hopper's case. I made a simular mistake with a bird and a dog years ago. I have a dog - 12 years old now - who had always been good with other pets including my pet cockatiel. I was convinced that to keep a bird "safe" in your home, you had to keep the wings clipped. Almost any bird publication I'd read backed that up. The cockatiel had a ladder from its cage to the floor and would come climb up my leg when I was sitting on the couch. My dog was lying on the floor chewing a bisquit and the cockatiel chose to investigate. I had never had any problems with the dog and the cockatiel being near eachother. The dog barely touched the bird, but just the tiniest nip and moments later the cockatiel died. She didn't even break the skin. I was totally to blame. I didn't see it coming. Now, I know firsthand why not to allow birds and dogs, cats, or other pets to interact.

I think all of mine have taken at least a day to start eating and moving around the cage and would normally do so when they thought nobody was watching. He'll probably be fine. I think it takes a while for them to feel comfortable enough (then they never stop eating )

Poor girl. I know how worrying this must be - I hope that the vet will be able to treat her and that she'll be okay in the meantime. Does anyone know what would/could have caused such a nasty fight?

Those babies are so cute!! Before seeing the picture, I thought Albino(White) and Lutino (Yellow).. but now I'm not too sure. Maybe lacewing? Dark Eyed Clears? The yellow is very light. Maybe if you post a picture of each of the parents, someone could unravel this genetic mystery.

That's great that they may already have homes. I'd imagine it's really hard to let them go... I hope that they will all have happy lives with their new owners when its time. Will you be able to visit any of them? Are you keeping any of the babies for yourself?

They're so cute and getting so big already. How about Marigold for the 4th one.. that's what came to me when I saw the picture.
  12. I think my first instinct would be to get a new boyfriend.. who would allow me to do what I'd end up doing anyway. Congratulations on your new birds.. I hope that everything works well with them and look forward to seeing pictures.

Great Cage! Merly looks so tiny. I have a *too* big cage also.. I used to have 2 budgies.. but now I have one budgie that goes back and forth between 2 cages. (Carri is on the green perch in the back in this one.)
  15. okay.. a long sad story short.. about 2-3 years ago I had two budgies that escaped.. I never got them back.. One of them was named Fourteen.. I thought that the bird was a female and recessive pied something. Anyone know from this picture? I always loved the muted pastels.. so of course the next bird I would get would be bright yellow and electric green. While we're here is Carrington anything besides pied?
