  1. *hides Carrington's lock picking kit* She says he's the only budgie worthy of ruling with her. Don't worry. She won't hurt him .... much.
  2. I think she's plotting to kidnap Blinks!
  3. I have a cunning plan! Humans shall bow before me as soon as I figure out why my head's glowing. ! So cute she should be outlawed.
  4. I'd thought I read somewhere not to offer red cabbage.. maybe I was mistaken.
  5. http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/specialist/crests/crests.html Here this may help.
  6. Very pretty. Bunny would fit right in with them I think. Slyvester looks especially cute in the last picture. We don't mind all the pictures .. keep them coming.

In general budgies don't drink alot of water. Some are shy and you will rarely "catch" them doing so.. But has yours suddenly stopped drinking as much as he did before?
  8. That is so wonderful. I would love to have something like that someday. Your birds look absolutely tiny.

Just a bit of advice. I have the cage in question. I use it.. but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. That's not tosay that there aren't some good points to it. I like the way that the doors folds down and "locks" when closed. Here's the main one in front when it's open. I also like the storage spaces built in to the base. Apparently the corner windows are meant to give the birds a better view of the room without the bars in the way. There is a built in "enclosed" bath option that my birds don't use anyway. You can change food and water without "going into" the cage and having a bird possibly escaping.. The dishes slide out and are blocked off at a certain point. Also, that's not an issue in my house.. as the birds are out most of the time. Some people mentioned ventililation. It does not trap heat like a greenhouse. The front, sides, back and top are completely open with standard horizontal bars. It's not difficult to climb around the cage either. But I still wouldn't recommend it for a few main reasons. It is pretty heavy when you clean it.. and more difficult to do so than a normal cage - but still possible.. it just takes a bit more work. The biggest dissapointment for me came when I partially disassembled it to clean and a plastic "tab" on one of the corner pieces broke off after only having it a few weeks. I contacted Hagen and it was $15 just to replace the part. The cage is easy enough to put together.. but I don't think they planned on having people want to take it apart again.

I resize my pictures offline with editing software.. but I think that there is an option to do so on Photobucket. Here I'll link them for you. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c149/dov2908/P1010431.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c149/dov2908/P1010429.jpg I think he's a double factor dominant pied.. as the markings are too sparce for a recessive.. but I'm not totaly sure.
  11. He looks great. You're going to love having him around.
  12. In the picture. Emmy definately looks like a hen. But I know pictures can sometimes be deceiving. Nothing would change except the absence of yellowface.. so a possible 50% normal blue, 50% normal green (all split for dilute and recessive pied)

I KNEW you were going to get the bird (despite what anyone had to say).. I could have placed money on it. Well, he definately is very pretty. Good luck with him. You should name him Saffron, he's so yellow. Be strict about quarantine. I don't think I've seen a picture of Binks so if you post one of him, I'd love to see it.

He looks so silly.. great picture.
  15. I find myself more drawn to recessive blue mutations and was wondering if there are some budgie mutations more prown to sicknesses/shorter lives. I remember something about Albino animals not living as long.. but it wasn't about budgies. Hypothetically, will a blue dilute budgie live as long as a normal green given the same standard of care? Are red eyed varieties such as albinos/lutinos genetically weaker? I've heard that Rainbows *a combinations of several mutations * don't live as long.. does anyone know why?
  16. Car was clipped when I got her.. When they were growing out she was able to fly perfectly when she has 2 primaries on one wing and one on the other.

Great pictures. Your birds are beautiful. I especially like Shadow. I have a soft spot for pale colored budgies. It looks like yours are going everywhere they shouldn't be like mine. They must just love looking down on us or something. How are things going with Kiwi? Is he becoming tame yet?

I'm not really sure about a few things. Have you gotten the new budgie yet? and how long have you had Binks? Don't give up hope that your bird will never be as tame as Bea's Blinkie. I've had a couple birds very tame that weren't handled as babies. It gets tougher to have that sort of one on one relationship with a bird when you add another bird to the mix. I think that even though you would be getting the bird from the same store quarantine would be necessary. It gives you some time to observe the new bird for possible health issues and helps you to interact with the new bird. It would be a good idea to tame him/her before introducing Binks. Budgies can be pretty loud. Probably not loud enough to make the neighbors complain.. but loud enough that watching TV can be difficult at times. Well..mine are in the living room. I have 2 males and a female. They have been making alot of noise recently. Of course I haven't seen the bird.. or its tail or nails so I could only tell you that if it doesn't "look right" or healthy to you don't get it. If there was one in there that looked like it has some kind of problem such as the one missing its tail feathers. I personally wouldn't take the chance and buy any bird that was exposed to it.

Hi .. welcome to the forum. I hope that your budgies will do well with their new family.
  21. I think that Jim is a DF dominant pied too based on that picture. Also, his cere will turn blue if he is dominant and is indeed a male.

I'm glad you were there to "save" Pretty. Things like that happen so quickly.. I've had "bird emergencies" a couple of times. Very scary.. I'll definately take extra precautions if I have any small children over.

That's nice that your aunt is giving you her cage.. but make sure that the bars aren't too far apart. Some cockatiel cages aren't good for budgies.. You wouldn't want anything that a budgie head can fit through. Less than 1/2 an inch is recommended spacing here. Also make sure you throughly disinfect it before use.
