  1. Thanks for posting this question. I was just about to ask the same question. My birds are in a corner near a large bay window, but they do not get direct sunlight. By the time I get home from work now in the winter, it is already dark; and I don't want to leave them in front of the window all day. I am also concerned about drafts. I will look into the UV light also. We have a wonderful bird store here in Westchester County, NY; and I will try them this weekend.

That advice is quite helpful. I will try scraping some off into the food dish. I will keep it in there and continue to watch to see if they eat it.

I have been putting in a cuttlebone in my birds' cage for the past year. They never touch it. However, they do bite at a mineral block. Is it essential that they eat the cuttlebone or will they get the same benefits from the mineral block? Also, does the cuttlebone go bad? How often should I replace it (even though they don't touch it!)?
  4. I had a female that was quite the same. I was advised by my vet to keep her away from my other birds. My parents were visiting one day and admiring the birds and I offered this nasty one to my dad. He was thrilled to take her. Well ... they have bonded. The bird is quite happy as a lone bird and absolutely loves my dad! He now brags about how great this female is and how well trained she has become. A happy ending!
  5. Thanks for replying. They are kept inside so that may be why. The feathers are the little fluffy ones. They seemed to lose their larger feathers in the spring and in the fall. Thanks--I will take a look at the pictures.
  6. Does anyone know how many times a budgie molts during a year? I have two parakeets who are in good health and happy but seem to lose feathers quite often.

Baytril is a miracle drug for birds. I had three very sick birds and the vet prescribed baytril. I had to give it for three trial lengths but all birds are now well and happy. Good luck!
