Blinky Just Sits .. Doesn't Play Etc
With the experience I've had with my budgies, I bought them when they were a little older (all girls). It takes a couple months before they get used to their new surroundings and you. Keep up the hand taming, your budgie will come around. I've used the ladder or tunnel method where i let them crawl through my hands and it seems to work. If you let them do this, it gets them used to your hands and then they will slowly start to sit on your finger. I also reccomend talking and singing or whistling to get her used to your voice, the more interaction the better. Millet is also a good training tool but don't over use it or you will have a fat unhealthy budgie. After you do the inital training with the millet, ease her off of it and your love and praise can be substituted as the treat! I highly suggest to wait to get a new budgie as it will most likely foil your chances of taming the first. It is definately worth waiting to have them tame. The bond that can form between you and your budgie is a very special one.

Want a tame bird?
Actually i always feared using mirrors with my birds thinking that i wouldn't be able to tame them. But Opal seems to be an exception. She loves her mirror but she learned to be tame just the same. She comes when called (mostly) and is finger tame and copies whistles, I think maybe the mirror problem is more pronounced in males and not in females.

New Breed Of Budgie
I have discovered a new breed of budgie that I like to call pinkface. This mutation only occurs in budgies that have pink mineral blocks and like rubbing their face's all over it. Here is an example: Opal the skyblue pinkface opaline

Budgie That Doesn't Like To Fly
she lands somewhat strangely but that could just be because she lands on the roof of her cage and the roof has peaks so there isn't a flat surface....

Budgie That Doesn't Like To Fly
She has been to a vet about her problem and the vet said she is not in any pain. I only heard the story from the vet through a secondary source because she was taken to the vet by the store. The vet said that it was some kind of old back injury that causes the neurons to miss-fire and she has trouble keeping her one leg in the right position. This doesn't affect anything else about her. Just how she perches pretty much. She is quite tame, she sits on my finger and such. she will fly aroundthe room if encouraged, she can fly, her wings are clipped but are growing out quite well, so that doesn't prevent her. Lastly, she is not that new, i have had her since august (i have just been slow to post about her, mainly because i couldn't find a good picture of her).

Introducing Opal
you are correct ... i named her so because she is an opaline She perches funny because her one leg sticks out to the side a little bit.

Introducing Opal
This is Opal my newest budgie. (Can you guess why she was named this?) I adopted her from Petsmart where I work because she has a leg injury and she could not be sold. She is like a normal budgie in everyway except the way she moves and perches a little differently. I almost think she is a he sometimes because of the way she is always bobing her head at her toys and chatters away at them. I almost think that she might start talking sometimes. Close encounter Looking cute

Budgie That Doesn't Like To Fly
My budgie Opal doesn't like to fly. I let her out multiple times a day and she sits on the top of her cage and plays with toys, she has free range in my room, but she won't fly around.I know she can fly there is nothing physically wrong with her. I'm just worried she is not getting enough exercise. I tried a hamster wheel and she will run on it but not for very long, she gets bored with it. Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggestions?

Noise Level
Thats what i thought. Yeah.. i remember having two budgies and the noise they made. But i figured one alone especially a female will only really chirp when she hears other birds, content chirping, and other things to provoke her. Thaks for all the advice.

You need to set him up a goal to shoot at!

Noise Level
If i had one female budgie alone in the house, what is the expected noise level. I know that all birds are different and it can be hard to generalize, but what do you think? Would she just chirp in the morning and at night. I can't remember how it was just having one by itself.... can you help?
