Posted March 9, 200619 yr I remember seeing a post where a new budgie was purchased because he/she had seizures and the pet store said it had epilepsy (don't remember where the post is not) Anyways, I have been reading a book on budgies and here is something you should consider. First don't take her word for it that he has epilepsy because seizures can be caused from other issues also, and she is not a avian vet. Here is what I read... Seizures can indicate a number of serious conditions, including lead poisoning, infections, nutritional deficiency, heat stroke and epilepsy. The bird may have a seizure that last from a few seconds to a minute. Afterward, he seems dazed and may stay on the cage floor. He may also appear unsteady and not ready to perch. Keep the bird from hurting himself further by removing everything you can from his cage. Cover the cage with a towel and darken the room to reduce the bird's stress level. Contact your avian vet for further instructions. So what I am saying, is take this little one to the vet make sure you get an underlying reason. Keep us updated.
March 9, 200619 yr very good advice, i think the topic is in the bringing a new budgie home section. it is quite common for metal poisoning to cause seizures. it is possible he was having seizures in the pet shop because of one particular product or cage. you will definitely need to see an avian vet for a diagnosis, as it may be something that will stop or it may be a longterm condition that will need to be managed by diet or monitoring, medication. good luck
March 9, 200619 yr Thanks for finding that lovey... im going to hunt down that post and put this link
March 10, 200619 yr Thanks a lot for your help lovey , I'm going to take him to the avian vet as soon as possible. I don't think it's epilepsy, because he didn't fall down once since I brought him home. Today I went to the pet shop again to ask the lady if she actually gave me the right budgie (there were 3 same ones) and she said that he doesn't fall down often, maybe once a week or two . So I'm more confused now . I'll let you know what the vet says.
