News Of Daisy And Delilah

Some of you may remember Daisy (aka Gimpy) and Delilah who left us in February for a new home with two little girls. See this story here.

The birds did well - flying to finger with the two little girls who they went to live with and avoiding the house cat. Through the summer they had the run of the glass enclosed porch where they live and herein lies the tale. As one little girl reported to me on the phone - "Mummy let one of the birds out and it did not come home". Mummy having let her guard down for a moment and Delilah slipped through the door and spent the day on the tree by the deck calling like mad to get Daisy to join her. Apparently through the day Daisy was equally adamant in her calls that Delilah should come back in and by nightfall neither had settled the matter. It got dark and sadly Delilah was not seen in the morning or ever again. One guilty mother and two heartbroken little girls.

With Daisy needing company a visit to the pet store was arranged and a new bird joined the cage and they both took to each other well. In fact rather too well. The "new" Delilah has turned out to be a girl and Daisy has turned out to definitely be a boy. Brown cere meets Blue cere, the corner of the cage is sheltered under a platform and nature is in the process of taking its course.

But there is a problem - those of you who have read of of Daisy's not fully cured splay leg might appreciate that while Daisy has completely learned to operate as a normal budgie with one standing leg and a stuck out leg there is one thing that he is finding incredibly difficult to do...... They do the whole run up and down the perch thing, they do the claw each other's breasts, they kiss, but whenever Daisy tries to get on Delilah's back...... he falls off. He just can't stay on with only one leg to grip with. It is obviously frustrating for them both and they are really trying to work out how to deal with it. Trying all sorts of angles and bits of the cage geography. They have clearly figured that if they are going to be succesful they are going to have to use the side of the cage to lean on to stop Daisy falling off to one side. It is now just a matter of practice till they get it right........

tee hee! I'm sure they'll work it out, eventually! What a heartwarming story

Aw what a sweet/sad/funny story. Lovely to have an update and I think you ought to provide Delilah with a little saddle with stirrups in it for Daisy to lock his legs into!
