Hi, i recently bought this budgie from a bird sale for $25.00 and I would like to know what color mutation he is. He is a beautiful male and has a mixture of blue green and yellow on him.

Thanks

May I change to DOM PIED I think he has Iris rings.

Well a rainbow budgie is a combination of a few different varieties. Yellow face is the prime part and YF M2 probably produces the best result. M1 too soft a yellow and Golden Face too strong. Often in the mix is spangle, clearwing or greywing and opaline.

Yours as mentioned here is a YF (M2 probably) Cobalt Dominant Pied.

Its not just about iris rings Robyn, he has common dominant pied markings as well

We just recently had another discussion about rainbow budgies. Yours isn't one, but he's really beautiful. I've recently begun to love the look of the yellowface with the cobalt. Instead of turning sea foam color, like on a sky blue, it often turns to several shades of blue and green over different parts of their bodies. It can look really stunning, especially after a couple of molts. :)
