Bush Budgies

Featured Replies

they are very cute (L) i thought bush budgies were smaller then that?

Unless you have a tape measure next to them you cannot tell by a photo lilbabybudgies

Pardon me for being a tad cynical but how do we know they are truly Bush Budgies and not just captive bred greens of the smaller pet variety?

Without DNA I wouldn't know if they are genuine bush budgies or not, I only go on the word of the breeder ( and a reputable one at that) that I aquired then from that they are bush budgies. They certainly look closer in size and traits to the many wild budgies that I have seen in my travels through the outback Aus.

I'm a bit of a skeptic to when it comes to 'bush budgies' I tried doing a bit of research into them once but found that not many people actually have a license to go and trap the wild budgies... BUT, I am interested in finding genuine bush budgies and so if you have any idea where to get them from I'd greatly apprieciate it.

How long have you bred them for Budgieman?

Do you ever have any mutations that pop up out of no where?

And I just noticed that you only have 2 posts so I am guessing this is your first thread so ;) and :)

A few purist bush budgie breeders are breeding these birds from original bush budgie stock. Not everyone out there with bush budgies for sale is a crook or is dealing with normal green budgies they think they can hoodwink people with. And not every bush budgie breeder has to be the one who has a license and goes out to get them either. I know a few people now who have been keeping their bush budgie stock pure and breeding at home for years. The genuine bush budgie breeders are out there. Join a avicultural club and inquire of the members as to who has the genuine bushies.

After all the rain we have had it might soon be a good time to grab some babies out of the nest if you had a license. If you want some it should be a good time to put the feelers out...?

They are unbelievable sweet bush or not. I am one of few (?) who prefer the originally form of budgies rather than the English version.

(gosh that sentence was bad written I’m afraid)

I saw 3 male bush budgies at a bird show I went to today. They were very cute and incredibly timid - so much so they spent most of the time I saw them trying to be the one on the bottom of the pile.

It is remarkable how small and scrawny looking the bush budgies are. I have bred very small pet budgies but nothing as small and thin (not an unhealthy thin) as the bushies.

They are so cute! Bushbudgeis. :D

I'll just love the green ones in all it's combinations. :D

I have this philosophy. Wild budgerigars are the true "Bush Budgies"

Once they breed in captivity then the offspring can no longer be considered as being "Bush Budgies".

I don't mind them being called bush budgies, its a marketing term that lets people know that this is what a budgie looks like when you see them out bush. I do have a problem with people selling budgies as bush budgies when they are blue... (and I have seen that advertised)
