Need Good Regular Seed Mix Ingredients

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Here in my place most of them give only millet seed as the base seed diet along with some veggies. After going through few forum posts here, I feel that a good base seed diet should contain a variety of seeds/cereals mix. So I would like to know how I can make my own regular great healthy seed mix for my birds.

Could anyone please share here, what all are the variety of seeds/cereals which can be mixed together to make a healthy regular seed diet and also on what proportions we need to mix.

Also along with close clear picture of each seed/cereal used would be most beneficial especially for the members from different regions to identify it easily, since each seed/cereal might be well known with different local language names.

Thanks,

Karthik

If you do a search in the nutrition section and I believe th author was eterri you will find what you are looking for :hap:.

A good base for the birds are equal portions of Canary, French Millet, Jap Millet, 1/2 portion of Panicum. 1/4 portion of Hulled oats (grouts) and 1/8 niger.

You can add vegetables: Corn, grated carrots, Sprouted Mung beans and snow peas, Celery, Oranges.

Gum leaves.

Soft Food for breeding cabinets consists of Hulled Oats and Wheat soaked over night in filtered hot water which Avicleans has been added. After draining and washing, I add grated Carrots, Egg Powder Passwell Crumble, Paswell Budgie Starter.

Karthikji-

how about Dalia, (i am writing in hindi)and Bajra mixed? this works for my guys

Already my birds are fed with plane millet (Bajra).

I will have to try with broken wheat (Dalia).

Actually I was looking for a healthy balanced seed diet for birds which consists of various variety of seeds and at the same time it should be easily available in the local stores.

Daz has already given some good seed mix, but the problem is that here local store persons are not aware of few mentioned seed variety with these names. So I am trying to find out the corresponding local names.

:D

Exactly my point. milega kaise?

I am just trying to collect different variety of seed pictures as much as possible and then next step is to find the corresponding local names. Anyways once I have some thing, will update this thread.

Those are good pictures for him Chrysocome, I looked for some for him yesterday, but couldn’t find any. Breeders here use quite a lot of Canary seed & the various millets in their mixture, with a smaller amount of hulled oats & smaller still of the very oily seeds [safron, Rape, [Canola] Niger & Linseed. As too much oil can cause problems. Whether he can obtain the seeds remains a problem, but at lease he knows what they look like now.

Karthik,

I admire you for trying to find the very best mix of seeds that you can. You will have the happiest budgies in the country.

Thanks Chrysocome, Norm and Feathers.

Chrysocome, I have searched in google immediately after seeing Daz post, but the problem was that I see many different pictures for the same seed variety name and so I got totally confused to figure out which one was the right one. Also the pictures were not that clear.

I was looking for some clear closeup pictures to be of very similar to that of I have posted in my another threads Thread1, Thread2, and Thread3 - Sunflower Seed. Still I am not sure what is the exact seed variety name in my above mentioned threads (Thread1 and Thread2).

Also in some other thread I read that Budgies refuse to eat Linseed and Rapeseed, does any one has some ideas or would like to comment on this.

When I searched in google, I have seen pictures of Panicum millet and white/yellow millet.....which all looked to me the same and unable to differentiate between them. Could some one tell me or post some clear closeup pictures of these two showing the clear visual differences.

Is french millet, white/yellow millet, and french white millet are all the same seed variety or each seed variety are different?

(i.e.) is french millet = white millet = yellow millet = french white millet

Thanks :)

I don't have niger in my mix, Daz... what nutrients does it add to the canary/millet/oat groat mix? As I may add it if it's of additional benefit.
