May 27, 200618 yr well unless daddy green is split for blue they will all be green :ausb: and they will all be spangle some double factors you think too? They are so cute
May 27, 200618 yr Author well unless daddy green is split for blue they will all be green :ausb: and they will all be spangle some double factors you think too? They are so cute Dad is the mauve one, Mum is the green one. The two spangles are definitely one a bluegreen look and one a cobalt blue look so far but with heavy yellow on the wings. End of next week should show the results. The darker budgie is coming up a green normal and maybe the youngest will be too. 2nd youngest is all yellow and dark eyes...is that a DF spangle ?
May 27, 200618 yr Looks like you got some interesting babies out of that pair. The all yellow one must be your DF Spangle?? Lovely!!!
May 27, 200618 yr Author COOL :ausb: So this must be right then QUOTE "S.F. Spangle x S.F. Spangle gives 25% D.F. Spangle, 50% S.F. Spangle, 25% Normal" and to quote DAZ daz May 14 2006, 15:18 " BB is mum a spangle?? Can't tell from the shadow??? If so you have mated a spangle against spangle You know what that means???? 25% change of a double factor Spangle....... Can't wait to see if you get one" Edited May 27, 200618 yr by budgiebird
May 27, 200618 yr yayayayyayayaya, DFS Karen! ! ! ! Congrats! :ausb: ps-just checking e-mail now But it looks like its your bed time now? Its 10:42am here Kirby
May 27, 200618 yr Author :ausb: Yep we are almost exactly 12 hours ahead of you Nathan. I don't normally go to bed before midnight, but I have had a big day working on some leadlights and more planned for tomorrow. I am happy about the yellow baby DFS and also the other spangles. Since the normals will be split for spangle too, there's no excuse not to keep the lot but we will see.
May 28, 200618 yr Author We're off to the bird club meet this morning to try and get Ken's whitefronted blue scarlets he loves so much. He has a pair and wants some more. I will check these babies later and see how they are colouring up. The coloured feathers are showing on their chests now and I will try and get pikkies of the front of them. :ausb:
May 28, 200618 yr Author I think dark eyed clears are from another kind of pairing with maybe recessive pieds to dominant pieds. The Double Factor Spangle looks either all yellow (from a green based bird ) or all white (from a blue based bird) with no visible spangle markings. You may get a hint of colour near the vent or tail from the base colour (blue or green). Thats what I have read up on anyway. DF spangles have dark eyes too. Apparently if you pair a DF Spangle to a normal budgie all babies will be spangles. Interesting genetic topic. :bluebudgie: I also have another pair of spangles with 5 or 6 eggs.....Melon and Jonas. Eggs due to hatch maybe end of the week. examples....DFS are produced from 3 different matings: 1. SFS x SFS gives 25% DFS 2. SFS x DFS gives 50% DFS 3. DFS x DFS gives 100% DFS Genetically double-factor spangles are all yellow or all white (depending on base color). You can tell a budgie is double-factor spangle because its irises lighten normally with age. Comparatively, lutinos/albinos have red eyes and dark-eyed clears have dark plum eyes throughout their lives. Edited May 28, 200618 yr by budgiebird
May 28, 200618 yr awww now they are gorgeous babies!!! :bluebudgie: I hope you get more DFS from the other pairing!!
May 29, 200618 yr Author Updated photos for today. We have what is looking like three blue spangles with yellow wings and face, one green normal and one double factor spangle yellow. With three blue babies, does that mean mum is split for blue ? or does Dad's dark colour dominate ? I must say I have never had such a large and healthy bunch of babies. They are bigger at this age than any I have had before. Vigorous and beautiful. Oldest is 3 weeks. Edited May 29, 200618 yr by budgiebird
