Today my beautiful cremino budgie was killed by our rabbit that lived at the bottom of the aviary.

She was one of my first budgies.

She had a cyst on her bottom and i was thinking of putting her down.

I was at school at the time and my mum said it wasn't a pretty site.

I feel so guilty.

:)

:rip: Tweeti

:angel1: this is the second adult budgie ive lost

Oh sweetness. Im so sorry to hear that, but please dont feel guilty. Theres nothing you can do anymore. Just think of all the joy that she gave you in the past, and never let her memory die.

(((((((((((HUGS!!)))))))))))))

Oh what sad news :( I'm sure you've probably answered this before but are your lovebirds and budgies still living together? I only ask because I would suspect a lovebird before I suspected a bunny...

Sorry to hear of your loss mate

I find it hard to believe the rabbit done it too. Any other suspects in that same aviary

My bunny is often in my budgie aviary pottering about and has never done anything to make me feel like it's a risk having him there either.

Also is your floor concrete or dirt? Make sure you check for any spots a rat might have got in, even f you don't think they're around trust me they'll be there somewhere.

Thanks everyone for your reply,

The lovebirds and budgies are not living together now and my ground of the aviary is bark, there are no holes for any rats to get through.

Unless the floor is fully sealed with wire they could still be getting in, if the floor is bark chances are any tunnels would collapse behind them.

Exactly what had happened to the budgie? Another common one is if the budgie decides to sleep on the wire then a rat or a bird of prey may grab them through the wire and do alot of damage

The floor is wood all concealed with bark on top,

Im positively sure it was the rabbit

You said the bird had a cyst on its bottom...if you didnt get the vet to diagnose this it could have been a tumour of the preen gland or a feather cyst. But either way the bird most likely died from that rather than the rabbit killed it. A cyst will keep growing and pop and bleed often allowing the bird to bleed to death.

we took her to the vet and he said it was a cist,

that morning befiore i went to school my mum saw the rabbit chase tweeti and she only just managed to escape, my mum had to go out thaty day and i had to got to school so we wouldve had to have waited until three o clock. The rabbit likes to throw things up in the air and play with things, when mum looked in the aviary that afternoon she was torn to bits. :budgiedance:

Well that solves it then.....the rabbit did it. You should be able to give really good advice then when people ask about keeping rabbits and birds together.

What a horrible thing to find. :P

PS cysts are treatable....wonder why the vet didnt fix it.

yea me too, the vets here dont know much about birds they are hopeless, he just said its a cyst and it will probably die within a few months we dont have any treatment for cysts on birds. I thought vets should know at least a little bit of each animal not just cats and dogs and your usual pet
