Water Bottle Question

I have a water bottle on the side of the cage as sort of a "backup" source, but have noticed that sometimes it doesn't refill itself properly. It consists of a narrow glass tube, and a plastic "trough" of sorts that attaches to the open end of the tube. You fill it, put the plastic piece on, and then tip it upside down & have to tap it a bit to encourage the trough (which sticks into the cage) to fill with water. There's a metal clip that holds the bottle to the outside of the cage.

I do think my bird drinks from this occasionally, but have noticed that it doesn't seem to refill itself w/out me tipping it a bit, sometimes having to tap or shake it slightly as well.

It's not a big issue, but I'd think it was supposed to be a little more self-sufficient than this! If anyone has this type bottle, knows what I'm talking about, and can suggest a "fix", could you please post a reply?

Thanks,

I have the same water bottle set up for my two budgies.

I know exactly the problem you mention.

The solution I have found that works like a charm:

Don't put the plastic trough on quite so tightly.

Leave a tiny gap between where it "is supposed" to go and the edge of the trough.

The gap is maybe only about 2 or 3 mm but it really works.

You might have to experiment over the sink to make sure you don't leave it out too far.

I did that once and the whole bottle drained itself in a couple hours!

Hope this helps.

:hap: :ygbudgie:

Thanks, I can see how that might just work! Incidentally, I can just see myself emptying the whole bottle by mistake (splash!). :hap: So, thanks for adding that cautionary note!

Will let you know if it works!
