Posted January 2, 200817 yr hey everyone. I am looking at breeding a cinnamon violet fallow to a yellow face type II recessive pied. Both genes are recessive. What might I get? Below are pics of the pair Edited January 2, 200817 yr by dmcminn
January 2, 200817 yr Dave…if the Fallow isn’t split for Recessive Pied & the Recessive isn’t split for Fallow you will get birds with normal wing patterns & all birds will be split for Fallow & Recessive Pied. So about 50% YF2 & 50% white faced Blues, unless they are both split for some other Recessive Mutations, or the cock split for Sexed link Mutations. Dave are you sure the Fallow is Cinnamon, as Fallow makes the wing markings Brown?
January 2, 200817 yr Author Norm, Am I sure the Fallow is cinnamon? No. But Kaz and I were discussing her the other day, and comparing her to other fallows. Not only is she very brown, her cheek patches are brown, and she is very diluted. It is entirely possibly, and there is no real way to know this unless I breed her with a male cinnamon, and they produce cinnamon boys, that she is cinnamon or not. At this stage, it is an educated guess.
January 2, 200817 yr Yes Dave that would be the only way to check. I have a TCB cock that I bought, I thought he just had pale wing markings [a fault] but he produced a hen chick that looks definitely Cinnamon, but only one so far, so I'm beginning to wonder. Usually if he was Cinnamon all his hens would be Cinnamon, but he is a Normal split for Opaline & has produced a lot of Opaline hens & Lutinos of which he is also split. January 2, 200817 yr Author That is the thing isn't it? You can never be 100% sure of what you are going to get. To me, the most exciting part of the breeding is when they begin feathering up. When you look in a nest box, look at a little one, and say "How the *** did that happen?"

When you look in a nest box, look at a little one, and say "How the *** did that happen?" I think that’s the fascination with breeding to me, each new birth is totally new individual & you never can tell in reality what it will be like…mutation…whether it’s an improvement on Mum & Dad. I breed Guinea Pigs also, mainly to take care of the weeds from my garden…to convert it to more manure…but they have such amazing colour patterns & each one is different…very interesting stuff.
January 3, 200817 yr Looks like the answer has been found. any close of of her wings? so we can have a look, in some shot they looks a bit like a spangle but that could just be becuase of the flash.
January 3, 200817 yr Author Sure Nerwen. Here are some pics, these are the best I have got at the moment, might be able to get better shots over the next few days. If she was a spangle, shouldn't she have a white tail?
January 3, 200817 yr I have a cinnamon fallow hen brought from a well known fallow breeder over here only a few weeks ago or so... she looks very different to your fallow... even though she's of show type and green series it's clearly more cinnamon than your fallow... I have only one blue fallow bird who is a violet fallow and her wings look much liek yours although like nerwen said yours definatly looks spangled compared to my girl i personally would say your bird is just a normal fallow but it doesnt matter... fallow genes in my opinion whatever form they may be in are good genes She probably just seems more of a cinnamon coloured marking due to being spangle also... so if not sure... Test Breeding it is just a quick question too... by cheek patches being brown as you say do you mean throat spots? or actual cheek patches? - the cinnwing green fallow hen - the violet fallow hen
January 3, 200817 yr Libby your Cinnamon Green [Yellow] Fallow hen is also Opaline [pattern] wing markings, that's one reason why it looks different. Nice looking bird.
January 4, 200817 yr yeps i know she's opaline i was just making out a point of how differently "cinnamon" she is compared to my other 7 normal green fallows only bad thing about her norm.. is she's a feather plucker... kinda sucks, but hey... there's always fosters right Edited January 4, 200817 yr by *libby*
January 4, 200817 yr Author No, Sebby is not a spangle. She is very diluted, more so than most other fallows I have ever seen. That is why I and others have specualted that she may be a cinnamon fallow, rather than just a normal fallow, if there is even such a thing as a normal fallow - (Laughing out loud)

Do you have another Green Fallow that you can breed her to, to get more Yellows? I bought one recently that has Normal markings & is Pied also, but nice Yellow with Brown markings. I can’t wait to breed it.

Sure do Norm... she's in a cabinet with an olive fallow atm and we have another pair down atm also that hen is much prettier than the cinnwing hen, she's such a light yellow almost a pale colour... we also picked up a recessive pied fallow but he/she is only a few months old - the olive fallow cock - the cinnwing fallow hen with the recessive fallow I couldnt find pics of the other pair with the gorgeous hen and the much better looking cock but i'll get some to upload soon
