Renee yes i thought so to but thats the vets diagnoises the only varieties that i have really strugglwith this year are greens (of course) and fallows, KYLEs crests have also either been multi crests (up to 3 per bird) or plain crestbred so hes also a little down and has lost a bit of his enthusiasm. Cheers TAZ D

Well Taz a bit the same here, I have a really nice light green and I think he will be a tailess wonder and most my dark greens seem the same and some have feather cyst also. I have a lutino hen still in the breeding cage with a feather cyst on he behind, I am putting it down to being feather plucked. But the dark greens weren't feather plucked. I also have a stunning grey spangle , son of my white boy who is now dead and he has a feather cyst too. I don't know what is going on either.

Anyway I am just hoping some of those ones that have lost their tail feathers grow them back , after all they are going through their first moult.

you guys with chicks getting tail cysts need to look up and read about tail rot

i can almost garentee its tail rot i had one a young pied just last month

i did what you do for normal tail cyst and then ontop of that i pulled all feathers from his bum area the lot small ones to boot i dipped him in bennidine and water and then back into holding cage with other young chicks

he now has his tail fully back hes still only 10 weeks i can show pics if you like

hes fully fixed

i asked vet he told me theirs a fine line between a cyst and tail rot a cyst will always mostly regrow

if it does regrow in first moult it was tail cyst and not to breed the bird as you will be passing this on in genetic form

if it was tail rot

then will regrow tail at before first moult like normal

after treating and will never become cyst like again but may never regrow tail as it was roted out at the core

unless you squeeze all the yuk out and first lot of blood is let out then treat n stop bleeding

sounds horid was scarry to do but my birds got full tail back was it a cyst or rot in my case

will tell you once he moults if he gets another cyst but so far looks like was rot was dark black and deep set soggy feather that i had to squeeze out like a zit :(

My whinge for the day, I blew Gregs drill up (burnt the motor out )and now have to buy him a new one. But what really is my whinge is that the hardware store has a special and it is for a black and decker 18 volt with 2 batteries and a 50 piece extra bonus for $89.00 . Well as soon as the "Home cat"

came out I rushed down there to get 2 , one for Greg for Chrissy and one for me , seems I am always using the drill. Well they had none. I have been waiting for 2 weeks now and still no drills.

They reckon they got 4 in which is very doubtful. Any I rang Numurkah and they had one so I rushed over there and at least Greg gets his drill but I guess I miss out and will have to burn this one out for him too :P

But anyway the drill is worth $150.50 normal price so I am thinking the hardware store is to scabby to get them in at that special price. I actually reckon I saw them under the counter and they are just not selling them for that price, so annoyed.

Oh the hardware store here offered me a special on the exact same drill without the extras for $120.00 normally it sells for $139.00 but still a rip off. $30.00 more than the special I am after and no extras.

Well that's my whinge.

Budgie seed here in Brisbane can be anywhere up to over $50 a bag. I have found Trill seed sold by the 10kg bag in Big W and last I checked it was less than $20 per bag. There is a place at Greenslopes that sells AGM (Allora Grain and Milling) for $27.95/20kg bag for small parrot seed and I believe budgie seed isn't much more if at all. I have been sprouting it recently for weaning my baby red rump and it seems to have an excellent sprout rate (easily more than 80%). I am not sure if I am allowed to name the store directly here but it is on Logan Road, almost opposite KFC at Greenslopes. Apparently you can also get it from AGM directly at Springwood. I am yet to find out the deal with this....

I lost the best hen I have bred today. A combination of things went wrong, the heat being one of them.

Just reading through the posts. Sorry about your bird ford mob.

Re seed. I buy my seed from a produce store, nsw mid nth coast. 20 kg bag for $25.oo. It's a lot cheaper than supermarkets etc if you have access to one.

Check the quality of seed first, I had one brand that was ####t not worth the bag it was in, full of dust and stubble etc.(not from produce store) Now I have great clean seed at a good price. Worth the 30 km to get it.
