Hello, just wondering whether this bird would have a chance at a show, just for beginners?

He is a huge (huge in my eyes) bird as you will see in the pics below

Him compared to one of my pet types

Just interested in opinions, and if he isn't what could i breed him to to gain better qualities?

Hiya

You obviously have an interest i breeding "show" type budgies so you should try to get in touch with a local club and meet a few of the breeders. Hopefully by going to meetings, visiting some breeders and seeing some shows you will get an appreciation for what a good show bird looks like.

Clubs usually welcome new members and I know my club bend over backwards to get new members started,

As for an appraisal of your light green. it is a nice healthy looking but it doesn't have the head size, width, mask or spots to make it useful for show breeding purposes. None of that matters of course if you like the bird. He looks pretty happy with himself.

cheers

Dan

They have meetings and birds are usually shown, go along and find out. Ask lots of questions there and see if you can visit some people.

In all honesty for $20 or $30 down here you could buy a bird so superior (show quality wise) that it makes your bird not worth perservering with as it would take many years to get that bird's progeny to an acceptable standard. Hope that helps.
