I tried to pair experienced breeders to non-experienced breeders, as well as think of the outcomes and the like. I am only a novice so for me it is about breeding nice birds first, colour second. So this is what I have: Pair 1 - Sky Blue/Ino/Opaline Cock (experienced) to a GreyGreen Opaline Hen (novice) Pair 2 - Green/Blue/Cinnamon/Opaline Cock (experienced)to an Albino Hen (novice) Pair 3 - Cobalt Opaline Spangle Cock to a Grey/Blue Dominant Pied Hen Pair 4 - Sky Opaline Spangle Cock (experienced) to a Light Green Spangle Hen oops - picture to come Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to an Albino Hen Pair 6 - Opaline Grey Cock to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen (experienced) oops - picture to come Pair 7 - Grey Cock (experienced) to a Grey Opaline Spangle Hen Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen Pair 9 - Yellow Face Opaline Cock (novice) to Light Green Spangle Hen (experienced) Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen (experienced) Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen Pair 12 - Green Cock (experienced) to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen Time is an issue with me right at the moment, so I will post infrequently with this thread, but I will do my best. You don't get creamino's from a lutino to albino pairing. A creamino is a Yellowface Albino budgie. A lutino is not a yellowface budgie just because it has a yellow head. Yellowface is a seperate mutation. Good pairs Dave! Link to comment

I am quite happy with the cinnamon pairing. I actually want some cinnamon pairs, and some without. I am pretty sure as I type this though that the cock in Pair 7 - grey cock, is actually split cinnamon, as he had a daughter before that was cinnamon, so it will not make too much difference I suppose. There was a small gap between the door of a cage and a breeding and the Opaline Cobalt Spangle Cock from pair 3 (who is actually a son of Dumber(RIP) and nephew to Dumb) showed smarts enough to find it, slip out, and was sitting on top of another cage when I saw him. I caught him and returned him to his cage and then moved the nestbox 1 wire cage run to the left to solve the hole issue. It was quite suprising when I noticed it, but at least I could see where the problem was and it was easily rectified. Link to comment

Only problem is that it has only been 8 days. Now I am pretty sure that after mating it takes 14 days for an egg to be layed. This must mean that the birds must already have mated before they went down, so the young could belong to anyone. Anyway, these are the pairs that have one egg. Pair Three This pair were already bonded in the aviary, so the chances are that the cock in here is the father. Pair Nine She looked to have an eggy vent when I put her down so this was no shock. Pair 11 Tell me if I am wrong with thinking mating to egg should be 14 days. We will see what happens. Hopefully these are the first of many eggs. Link to comment

I originally thought that 14 days from mating to egg, but not anymore. New hens are laying eggs now and it is not possible coincidence could come into play, so I think 8 days is now the minimum for egg laying. okay, here we go. Pair 1 - Caesar and GreyGreen Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 2 - Twitch and Albino Hen - just starting preening in the last few days so this will be the second last pair to have eggs I think Pair 3 - Son of Dumber (RIP) and daughter of Twitch - 1 egg Pair 4 - Dumb and Light Green Spangle Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 5 - Lutino Cock to Albino Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 6 - Opaline Grey to a Sky Opaline Spangle Hen - no preening yet so this will be the last pair to have eggs I think Pair 7 - Grey Cock to an Opaline Grey Spangle Hen - 1 egg Pair 8 - Cobalt Cinnamon Cock to a Sky Cinnamon Hen - 1 egg Pair 9 - YF Opaline Sky Cock to a Light Green Spangle Hen - 1 egg Pair 10 - GreyGreen Cinnamon Cock to a Double Factor Yellow Spangle Hen - preening but no egg yet Pair 11 - Green Cock to a GreyGreen Hen - 2 eggs Pair 12 - Green Cock to a Grey/Blue Opaline Dominant Pied Hen - preening but no eggs yet Pair 13 - Grey Cock to a GreyGreen Cinnamon Opaline Hen - no eggs yet but she may well lay one overnight - big eggy bum So there you have it. All is progressing nicely. Let's hope that fertility is good. The weather has been good so hope all keeps going well. Link to comment
