In your previous topic about Pimms we said she was a girl budgie too. I think he may be a she too.Is there a whtish blue look to the cere ? if the cere is the bit above the beak then yes it has got white on it Finnie.........that means she's a girl! Some females lay eggs without males. It doesnt happen like it does with hens ( chickens ). Something is usually a trigger for a femasle to begin laying eggs without a male. Older females sometimes do it. Feamles who have places or things in the cage that resemble nests or nesting sites will. It isnt a common thing for females to lay eggs on their own although it does happen.
March 11, 201015 yr Author no she hasn't layed any eggs. thats when i found out she was a girl but then i thought of the question recently
March 11, 201015 yr no she hasn't layed any eggs.thats when i found out she was a girl but then i thought of the question recently I'm confused... She hasn't laid eggs but that's when you found out she was a female? am I missing a post?
March 12, 201015 yr I'm confused too. You have only just discovered she was a girl budgie BUT we already told you she was one. Maybe you are worrying about egglaying POSSIBILITIES just because she is female. No need to worry about things that havent happened. Edited March 12, 201015 yr by KAZ

Chronic egg layers arent normal and are a SMALL percentage of the female budgies. Most females do not on the whole become chronic egglayers. Of all my hundreds and hundreds of budgies I have never had one. No large seed dishes, snuggle huts, no nestboxes being given as places to sleep and you shouldnt have to worry about if she might start egg laying. I think you are worrying for nothing to be honest. Just because you have a female budgie does NOT mean she will start acting like a female chicken and begin egg production. Edited March 16, 201015 yr by KAZ

March 19, 201015 yr I once had a pet female budgie (just her, on her own), she suddenly decided to lay an egg when she was around 10 years old! Unfortunately it got 'stuck' & i had to take her to the vet to get it out. She never had another egg after that (but she only lived about another year!) Not sure what made her produce the egg, she did have an old oven glove that she had 'claimed' as her own some years earlier, which she liked to 'nest' in - but she had it for years before she produced the egg! Maybe it was because she was very bonded to me & i had recently had a baby?
