March 13, 200916 yr I would love to go but can't . Have fun girls and be careful what you buy, do your homework first. What I learnt is go around and pick out the best birds with the best features then mark them off my cataloge because they will be the ones that they all go for like $900 plus each. Specially if you are after a I Hunter , P Thurn , A Rowe, Sheppard & Flanagan even a Loats bird they all went for big money at the Geelong Auction, BUt if you have that mucg to spent go for it
March 14, 200916 yr splat... shhh but pippi's a boy! We will have fun, Pippi and i have to help man the BBQ which means no more bird buying... i swear really i do, no mor, nah... well maybe just that one we saw at selection....
March 14, 200916 yr Eastern district have a good auction, normally there are some good variety birds as well as strong normals available. Last year i bought a nice well marked lacewing hen. Top price last year was around $800 ish.
March 19, 200916 yr Just a query, on the website it says that everyone that enters must put down their name, address, phone number, club name and signature... if you don't belong to a club can you still go? I've never been to a budgie auction and thought it would be a good experience but am not a member of any club... do I just put N/A in that column??
March 20, 200916 yr It's just an attendence thing, if you are not a member of a club just tell them that you are thinking of joining and apart from Pam trying to convince you to join you are free to come, just head toward the BBQ and tell them you are friends of Pip and G and the will let you in for sure :ohmygod:

March 21, 200916 yr Well I went to my first Auction today out at Box Hill. It was great! I really enjoyed the day. I've gotta say I am very tired now but it was great just gong to observe. I didn't buy anything, I'd made that decision before I went I just wanted to go and observe today... But for anyone that is interested... After scratchings there were 242 birds up for Auction, the most paid was $880 and the minimum paid was $20. The average price worked out to be around $100. Watson Birds seemed to be the more popular birds to buy... I went through in the beginning and had a look at the birds, the ones I thought would do well did, apart from a couple which fetched around $40... All in all it was a really fun day!
March 21, 200916 yr You came and did not come and say hi! *is hurt* We picked up about 8 birds a few we wanted went for big bucks and one we got really cheap as I said to phil "it's pretty buy it" and he did (I was sort of joking) Great day
March 21, 200916 yr sorry I didn't know who I knew and who I didn't... I was the bloke in the Hawks top and the brown shorts, my wife and son came in after the second break but then she took him to the library cos he wanted to touch all "Daddies Birdies". Do you remember what your bidding number was? What birds did you guys get? There were a couple that I liked the look of went for 50 bucks other than that I found out I have very expensive taste when it comes to birds The crests fetched a good price... March 21, 200916 yr Hey your wife was she the darker skinned women who bought hot dogs for the kids? and who's kid was outside asking for daddy and you had to walk out at one stage? If so Budgielover13 (carolyn) was sitting behind you and I was the girl in the Korn t-shirt writting numbers down near the front door. Pip was in a red shirt and bidding with number 5. It was a great day!
March 21, 200916 yr Ahhh yeah That was my wife :thankyou: She pointed out to be that she was the only 'black' person there And yep Taumei was calling me to come and change his nappy I'm going through my list now, pippi got a couple of birds I liked the look of for a good price, I liked the greys and the DF Spangle too... I didn't see what bl13 picked up... It's funny how I had no idea who you guys were but we all congregated in that corner... I had a great time. Next time I'll enjoy bringing some birds home.

March 21, 200916 yr Jimmy you mean I was sitting right beside you for quite sometime and did even realise who you were!! Yeah I was the scary woman in the hot pink top, who thought your little boy was lost. And Snowy I'm sorry you must have come to the food counter at the wrong time, because AV and myself were behind the food counter quite a bit today and obvious AV would know who she is, and I certainly would realise who'd you meant, but if you happen to have asked Ron or Sylvia they wouldn't have, so just bad luck. It disappointing because it great to put faces to some of the members of this forum. Anyway I had a great day, pick up 7 birds and can wait till is time to pair up. I've got about 65 all up now, so more than enough to choose from.
March 21, 200916 yr okay you've just set me a goal of getting photos of the 7 birds I bought onto this post tomorrow, kinda a bit dark and would scare the cr*p out of the birds if I went out to the bird room now, to take some not so happy shots.
March 21, 200916 yr Well I guess we did all talk then I believe I got a number of a bidder off Budgielover13 and may have complimented her on a bird she bought. And I spoke to AV when I asked her for "A hotdog in a roll thanks." :hap: Glad to of met you both
