Guess it's too late to say that this isn't a good idea? :D

At least the bird will be fed and watered Terri eh and hopefully kept safe from harm.

Yeah, chances are it will be fine but it's not ideal. Better than him being alone at home though. There are just so many things that could happen to a little bird on a camping trip, even in the cage. Parasites, diseases, accidents with the cage falling over (especially considering that dogs are going along as well). He could get out, other animals could get in... it might even be very stressful on him to make such a long trip, then be outside for four days (even in a tent). The sights and sounds can be overwhelming for such a teeny bird. Hopefully he'll enjoy them rather than be scared though. :D

It will probably turn out just fine but I guess it doesn't hurt to point out the dangers for future reference and for people who may be thinking about doing the same thing.

I think it was her last resort, it is certainly a tricky situation.

Like I said put a LOCK on the door so there are no accidents on getting out. I personally wouldn't put him in the car too much tempature changes with warm and cold. Birds don't get drafts when the temapture declines gradually it happens when it decrease or increase quickly.

I hate the thought of keeping him in a tent because that doesn't seem very secure at all - but I do wish you the best as I know it was a last resort.

After your camping trip, I would certainly sit down and get together what you can do if this happens next time in a pinch.

Ahh and bring a first aid kit too just incase.

I understand the risks Terri but it was really a last resort as Elly said.

Im not dissing anyone here but I personally wouldnt have taken a trip knowing I had the responsibility of my birds care - but then who in their right mind would take care of my 10 birds hehe. Oh Terri would - oh why didn't you move to England grrrrrrrr.

Yeah, and I must admire a person for not just dumping some food and water in the cage and taking off. Many people do just that and come home to a dead or dying bird. :)

I would have stayed home as well but last minute things usually involve a rush in decisions.

Just ship them over booms and I will be happy to take care of them! :D Maybe I'll birdiesit next time I'm in the country. :D

 Riebie and Bobby did go camping with everybody, but, with all the warnings, I am sure all will go well, some of us wouldn't have gone and some of us would have made alternative arrangements but she sure does care for her birdie so all we can do is support her and await stories of her camping adventures.

Oh I know my question was what Booms posted?? It sounded like she was camping too  it was confusing.

Sometimes you have to choose between the lesser of two evils, and I think taking the bird is better than leaving him behind for 4 days, unattended. Hope they have a great time!

Well we are back from our camping trip and we had a wonderful time!! Thank you everyone for your concerns but it really was a last resort and it worked out well. We found a lovely camping spot with a picnic table which was Bobby's favourite place for the whole weekend! He was never unsupervised and far enough away from the dogs so there was never any risk of the dogs getting near him. Our tent is two sections and Bobby slept in our room, and the dogs in the other! He had a blast... He sat and sang his little lungs out the whole weekend. I had a padlock on the cage and cable ties holding down all the feeders, and bought those food holders that you poke through the bars so we didn't have to open the cage at all. We all had a wonderful time! I took some happy pics of Bobby enjoying the great outdoors!!

He loved the native eucalyptus leaves that kept him facinated, and notice the lock on the third picture... I kept the keys in the lock just in case of an emergency... Next time I will plan things a little more in advance and organise a sitter!! Oh he loved the car ride too... he sang and chattered the whole way there and home again, and is now settled in nicely at home.

Thank god you were lucky, and he didnt escape! (Laughing out loud)
