Coco and Charlie were busy before their first two chicks were 4 weeks old!

Not sure what Coco is but definitely a yellow head with lemon & mint colours. My next guess is Charlie is an olive green spangle? Possibly a yellow head too.

Box126_20101031_CocoAndCharlie.JPG

Coco laid three eggs and threw the 3rd egg out, then about 10 days later she laid another 5 eggs, the first egg hatched and laid another egg the next day, whew!

Her next lot are hatching now

#1 Laid 2 Nov - Due 20/11 - Hatched Sat 20 Nov

#2 Laid 4 Nov - Due Mon 22/11 - Never hatched

#3 Laid 6 Nov (thrown & found on floor of cage on 7 Nov)

#3 Found Mon 15 Nov - Due Fri 3/12 possibly? - Hatched Wed 1 Dec

#4 Found Tue 16 Nov - Due Sat 4/12? - Hatched Fri 3 Dec

#5 Thu 18 Nov - Due Mon 6/12

#6 Fri 19 Nov - Due Tue 7/12

#7 Sun 21 Nov - Due Thu 9/12

#8 Tue 23 Nov - Due Sat 11/12

Not sure of due dates now as they seem to be 16 days not 18 days to hatch.

Chick #1 hatched Saturday 20 November (this photo taken 24 Nov)

Box126_20101124_2ndClutch1stChick_2535.JPG

Second egg which was black never hatched. Then the big gap and Chick #2 hatched on Wednesday 1 December.

Box126_20101201_2ndChick_2769.JPG

Chick #3 hatched yesterday, Friday 3 December. Chick #1 is 2 weeks old today. Keep forgetting to check for red eyes as it has yellow on the wing tips so looking for another Creme!!!!

More ???? Isn't three Creamino's enough for now? I have to find more names - can't call them Creme, Creme Two and Creme Three!!! Other chicks have Japanese and Maori names so will need to find the meaning of cream in those languages.

I'll have to rest Coco and Charlie up for next year now!

I think Chick 3 is a lutino. The yellow is much darker than normal for a creamino.

Wow - you are right! That is so cool. They have feathered up more one week on. Less confusing than having four the same colourings. Many thanks.

Tuesday 21 Dec. Well here are the chicks feathering up more.

Chick #1 Cody is getting ready to fledge, he's on the edge of the nesting box hole! He is 4 1/2 weeks old now. This is him with Chick #2 Jessie who is up to 10 days younger (3 weeks today). Any ideas on male/female? won't know colouring for another week yet. Also Emilia Chick #3 is hiding beneath them.

Chick #3 Emilia has turned out to be a brighter yellow so a Lutino and Chick #4 Roxie is a Creamino. I'm assuming these are girls as their mum isn't an ino.

Cody has fledged now and looking lovely, 6 weeks old tomorrow. He is cheeky and tries to escape through the bird cage door whenever I change their feed dishes. Luckily he can't fly too well so I caught him easily.

Jessie (him/her name!) was 4 weeks old on Wednesday. Can anyone tell if it is male or female please? He/she is gorgeous Yellowface Sky Spangle.

Chick #1 is a yellow face albino (creamino) HEN if it has red eyes. If the eyes are black it is a golden face double factor spangle and could be either sex.

Chick #2 is a yellowface spangle sky blue

Chick #3 is a lutino hen

Chick #4 same as # 1.

I cant really see the eye colour which is why i included the possibility of double factor spangles, as I can see the hens markings clearly enough to see if she is a spangle or just has heavy pied markings. Cheek patches, lack of spots and the markings i can see do lean towards spangle markings, but could also just be pied markings.

Thanks for the info Dean. On another post most reckoned Cody was a male - has no red eyes they are dark, but someone reckoned it was a hen.

Chick 2 I don't know if male or female, fledged today.

Chick 3 is Lutino hen and Chick 4 is Creamino hen.

I hope the last 2 chicks hurry up and fledge as mummy and daddy are making all the moves for a 3rd lot and I need to rest them and take out the nesting box!!!!

chick 2 i would say female.

How old is the youngest? put an ice cream container or box at the bottom of the cage for the chicks to hide into when out of the nest as mum or dad sometimes start to attack them when they try to re-enter.

I'm sure there are some threads around with pictures showing the containers, I know Kaz had posted some ages ago.

You might not even need to leave the nest box there but if any eggs appear just remove them.

The youngest is 4 weeks old today. A bird breeder from the Club came to look at my birds today and said that she would take them out of the nestbox by mid-week anyway. Chick 3 Emilia the Lutino is getting ready to fledge - she was sitting in the hole of nestbox today. Coco is getting stroppy though as ... she laid an egg today!!!! Jan advised that I can put Coco's eggs into another nestbox as those eggs are at the same age. I don't think the chicks are feeding themselves though so if I take out the nestbox tomorrow will Coco and Charlie still feed the other 3 chicks? They are squabbling in the cage now but I don't have anywhere to separate them, especially since I don't think Jessie can feed him/herself.

Jan thought Jessie was a male as Cody and Jessie's ceres are the same colour that is showing in Cody's photo above! YOu'd think with the advance of technology a camera would take an exact photo - guess it's the operator eh!?!

This photo may have been taken with a flash - oops! Will try and take another one tomorrow.

yes they will continue to feed the chicks, at this point it is mostly the dad feeding them, him and the older siblings will help feed as well.

the ice cream container is to just give the chicks still learning a place to hide and sleep in before they learn how to sleep on a branch and in case mum or dad attack they can hide.

Real life is alway better than a picture in seeing the true colour.

Cool - thank you. I will put the icecream container in for them tonight. Emilia and Roxie are due to fledge very soon as they are sitting in the hole of the nestbox. Then I can get the nestbox out before Coco lays too many eggs!
