Hmmm...think I might also need to attend this auction!! And there's enough violets for all of us...

The great thing about this auction is that Barb can take comfort in the knowledge that her late husband's birds will be going to good homes...

Did This gentleman, show his birds, or were they just pet type.

If they are of good show quialty & he kept a record of the breeding,

there will be some good birds, for someone to get started. If no one has

been in & picked the eyes, out of them. There no information on the catalouge,

to the breeding of them.Just have to watch the bidding & those in the know are bidding

on them, stick abid or 2 in & help his wife out with a few extra dollars,if they are any Good.

These breeders have one of the largest studs in SA, I am fairly sure they had this auction every year. I am looking for inos, so I hope I can pick some of the hens up! :D

As I said, top breeders here. I think ( someone correct me lol ) they have more then 400 chicks a year with over 600 adults. Great birds, I love the style of them.

Someone correct me if I am wrong as I am not toally sure the info is correct, somwere along the lines through.

There would be some good blood in this stock, even though the breeding isnt catalogued, Barb would be able to give info on any of the birds. Kinda cool just buying birds on their own merit and not on a name I think actually. Barb is still keeping a flock of around 100 and cutting back here on varieties John did, so she can focus more on what she would like to do with the birds too. Between the two of them, their birds were a full time job and she just cant keep up with all the work, so I think she will be relieved to move some of their birds and yes, of course the money helps.

Not interested in yf's, or cinnamons and I have enough clearbodies to work with for now to not buy more just for the sake of it. I would like a couple of blue series dom pieds and something violet, but Im not looking to be spending big money - now if there were fallows...... lol

I read about his death somewhere but I am not sure where plus there was a photo of him and his wife.

It will be a sad loss to the hobby.

Well, lets just say two months of my pocket moeny are going into this..... considering I just payed my dad off for an aviary I bought at the start of the year, I am happy to be able to finally use some instead of it all going into the bank for him. My budget wouldnt be more the 60, and I would like 2 birds, maybe 3 if I can get them for $20.

Pretty good overall I think. No big price tags, a number around the $100 mark and one hen got to $210 I think. I bought (and probably paid too much for) a sky violet hen, a cinnamon sky cock who I am very happy with and a grey green cock who is also a nice size. I stopped bidding on the hen, but my partner thought I really wanted her and he took over bidding to get her for me. She looked better at the auction than she does now she's home, but that happens sometimes I guess. Still, she is a colour I want to breed with, so I will use her this season and possibly put her in an auction next year :)

The cinnnamon sky cock WAS lovely.

All of the birds sold in the end, with the cheapest birds going for 2 for $20 in a last attempt to sell them. I think there was about 5 or 6 bird that went between $100 - $150.

I got a lovely lutino cock bird and a nice hen also, both $20.
