If you remember I posted about my pet shop not listening to me when I said their clearwing in the PIED section was sick. Seems they listened to me....

I was walking down to my local PAC with my school to perform and I saw, lying in the middle of the road, behind the pet store, the SAME clearwing. I grabbed my jumper and got it after 2 attemps. My teacher took it to her sisters shop while I performed. When I got back to school ( with the bird ) I warmed it up and gave it food and water. It cannot fly so how could it have escaped from the pet store even if it hadn't been in the back room. I think they just chucked him out and left him there. He is now sitting in the hospital cage on a hot water bottle with a heat lamp. He is starving and was bleeding. He ate ( actually ate, not just pick through the seed ) and drank. I will spray him for mites and worm him.

I am disgusted!

Ratzy........despite previous dealins with this store about this bird, anything else is pure conjecture. Assumptions. You cannot imagine a story of what happened to this bird without facts and believe it to be true.....AND you must be careful what you say as people can sue for things said that cast aspersions against them without basis in fact.

Maybe you need to inquire innocently after that bird and see what their answer is.

BUT until then and even after........be very careful what you imagine happened and what you say.

PS Great save :D

   :( :hooray: :hooray: :hooray:

You bet I'm keeping it! It needs a load of TLC at the moment and fattening up. I'll get some pics for you. I said I was disgusted because of the state it is in. I did say I think that was what happened but I suppose it could have been bought the chucked out by the new owner. Just try to wait a few minutes before I get photos.

I think he is a clearwing spangle. As you can see by the tail feathers in one picture he isn't in a good state.

Sorry about the quality of pics. His flights feathers are weird, so at first I thought long flights, but it seems he just can't really hold them together.

I felt his keel bone and he is starving. I am fattening him up. I tried to clean his bottom but he got stressed half way through. When I saw him in the pet shop he had an overgrown beak but it is trimmed now. I thought he was a spangle. Can I feed him hand rearing formula?

Lets hope all your TLC will bring him back to good health again.

I will get him some tommorow then. He sleeps funny, and bows his head instead of tucking it in.

He is very weak. If it was me I would crop feed him and have a warm lamp on by the cage

I'm not sure I could do a crop feed.... He has a lamp. His poos vary, from normal to green. They are normal consistancy. I am going to a shop today to pick up more bird seed, hand rearing formula and extra dishes. He will have to come to school, unfortunately, so I can keep an eye on him and keep him at the right tempreture. If the kids are a problem he can stay in the staff room, which is very quiet. I haven't named the poor guy but he is still very much alive.

You can try adding a product like quikgel or spark(vetafarm Product) to his water which are high energy supplements (there are other products like these out there but i cannot think of the others) that are designed to help give a boost to birds that are under a lot of stress. Acidifying the water with a little bit of citric acid or apple cidar vinigar can be very benificial as well i use about 1/4 teaspoon per Litre of water for the Citric acid and 5-10mls per litre for the cidar vinigar. Placing him under the heat lamp is always the first point of attack for a unwell bird. If the little fellow has picked up a bug somewhere then he may need to go the vets to be tested, but you say his poos are reasonably normal which is a great positive and that he is eating. Your doing a great job and i hope he keeps inproving good luck. comments made are my opinion and others on the forum may not agree with them.

Thankyou! I will try that. I bought some hand rearing mixture and he did eat some ( via suringe ). I've almost cleaned his but, just a few dirty feathers, but I got that clumps of poo out. I got some extra seed and water dishes. He is under a heat lamp in the warmest room in the house. He is still drinking and eating. I will look at his poo in a minute but they were almost normal yesterday.

Taboo, how could I have just left him there? I'd be guilty for the rest of my life!

I woke up and went to check on him. My heart froze when I saw him lying on the ground. Thankfully, he was still alive. He had managed to crawl away from the heat source and was cold. I filled the hot water bottles and sat with him for two hours and held his head away from direct heat. He is still alive, but just. I fed him via suringe. I think he might be giving up.

I would say he is on his last legs.

The problem with budgies is that they are so small and by the time to you work out they are ill it is sometimes too late.

Sweetheart.............the very first chance you get............................get someone who knows how to show you how to CROP FEED. Many a crop feed has saved the life of a bird that wont take enough food by beak. Make it your number one priority to learn this skill....even if you pester your vet to show you how. :D

I agree with Kaz, I have saved my violet hen from certain 2 seasons ago and she is going fine now. I gave a course of antibotics straight into the crop and she went on to have more beautiful violet babies for me.

But then I cropped needled my white df hen and it didn't worked :D

But good luck with him

Thank you. I'm in the process of begging dad to take him to the vet. I've done some research and they HAVE to treat him and they won't charge us probably because legally, he isn't ours. I suringe fed him some more hand rearing formula but I'm not sure the good that will do.
