Hey guys, Just thought that I would share this strange little incident that happened today!

On Friday last week I lost a few budgies due to strong winds and the neighbours silly cat, but that is by the by. I lost 10 birds in total and was devastated, it topped if the worst day in months.

Any way one of the birds flew directly across the road to the neighbours and was promptly caught, placed in a wicker sewing basket with a artist paint brush perch a bowl of water and some seed from safeway, which by the way even though it is mostly millet, he seems to devour!!!!!

The strangest thing was that today while I was a work I recieved a phone call from the St Kilda police station to tell me that they had a bird that they thought may be one of mine! They got my number from one of the Vets in the area St Kilda vet clinic.

When the Police first called all I could think was OMG something bad has happened, oh no oh no oh no, but to my greatful suprise they told me that the offender was caught on Monday trying to break and enter into the local police station, by chewing through the rubber surround on the windows. This hen is one of my better hens that is from one of the breeders in my club who are also well known for there Spangle line, she is also one the babies from there TOP line of spangles, Her full brother went for some serious dollars at an auction on the weekend!

At least she knew the Safest place to go I suppose and these police officers were just wonderful and to top of the whole wonderful experience she laid me an egg, its not viable due to a hole in it, but to be honest I DONT CARE!!!!!

So you got two birds back. What lovely stories. You would have been so happy about that. Maybe some of your others will return. I do hope so.

Hi Guys, thanks for reading!

I am still over the moon with the return of these two, the hen that was doing the B & E at the police station is now looking much better, three days on the loose trimmed off any excess fat that she was carrying but with an increase in oats and millet sprays she is starting to look better, The cock that got away was only away for one night and spoilt rotten whilst away, he is now into a moult, eating like a little piggy and chasing all the girls around the avairy, when the moult is over and he finally catches his Hen he wil be heading back to the breeding room!

I have given my number to every vet within a 20km radias of my house along with the ring numbers of the birds that are still out there on the off chance that someone does hand another one in.

I wil say that the RSPCA were not the most helpful of people, saying that they dont take in birds that cant be rereleased when they are over anything that my be wrong with them, and was also not to hold out much hope as they will more than likely have either! oh no it doesnt matter it was just negetivity on there behalf and not something that I would wish on any bird, let me just say that my faith and unfortunatly my support for this organisation has just fallen further down my list! All animals both domestic and wild all deserve the same treatment, wild rereleased and domestic rehomed!

I am sure that there is room in the paddock to keep a few birds in an aviary for a length of time.COME ON GUYS!!!!!

They didnt even refer me to anywhere in Melbourne that could house found birds and I know that AV has her shelter and that alot of breeders around Melbourne have Told them they they can take on not just budgies but also other domestic birds, Obviously there isnt as much money in helping and rehomeing poor birds as there is in Cats and Dogs.

I know that it may seem that I am being harsh on these guys, but when the offer of help is there, why is it not taken up, I was told point blank that they DO NOT TAKE IN DOMESTIC BIRDS! (makes me laugh though as I know they have an Emu in the paddock with the ponies and the cow and pig.)

I know that not all the RSPCA's are the same as I have seem on their website in other states that there have been the odd budgie or other companion birds turn up that are listed on the website's

Anyway I have had my rant about them, sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*points upwards* I agree I am still mad about a lut cock that I took in over a year ago they took him and never told me that he would be put down if I had known that at the time then I would have kept him as he was a very pretty bird!

Lucky you, my two birds flew away due to an open door and some clever beaks. Trust me, I didn't see them again.
