Hemp

I was reading a book today and it mentioned that Hemp was known to bring birds into breeding condition. Has anyone ever fed their birds hemp before? I'm guessing it would be the hemp seeds but who knows.

I would prefix all conversation about hemp with "industrial hemp", otherwise the topic could get "interesting" Hemp is full of good nutritional stuff for humans, but:

 

Hemp contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive ingredient found in hashish and marijuana. While THC is present in all Cannabis plant varieties to some extent, industrial hemp does not contain an amount to produce any intoxicating effect, even in significant quantities. In varieties grown for use as a drug, where males are removed in order to prevent fertilization, THC levels can reach as high as 24% in the unfertilized females which are given ample room to flower. In hemp varieties grown for seed or fibre use, the plants are grown very closely together and a very dense biomass product is obtained, rich in oil from the seeds and fibre from the stalks and low in THC content. EU and Canadian regulations limit THC content to 0.3% in industrial hemp.

From my understanding Hemp seed is controlled in Oz because of the issue of it being hard to determine industrial with non (more drug focussed) hemp.

I know about hemp....there is a hemp protein powder currently being fed to show budgies and also the hemp seed oil can be put in soft food. It is readily available to purchase.

Obviously, one section of land of hemp can deliver 1000 liters of oil reasonably. I read this blog now and again and the essayist makes some intriguing focuses. Regardless of whether you put stock in a dangerous atmospheric devation or not I think his answer for greener living bodes well than what is being actualized today.

Hemp seed is a favorite of birds and is often found in birds food formulations. It is an oily seed very high in omega 3/6 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and all 20 known amino acids.

Hemp seeds should be fine. The seeds you buy in the shops don't contain THC. The varietals for the food market are not psychoactive.

The psycoactive types (sativa and Indica mainly) grow heads, where the seeds grow, The THC is mainly in the sticky resin that coats the heads and leaves.
