It's a sight to behold. Feathers and poofiness in all directions Since all in the main aviary haven't had nesting boxes for a month they must have been bored. One decides time to moult and they all thought it was a good idea : : So, it's been raining feathers for about 2 weeks now. They are the most raggedy crew you have ever seen. It's a wonder I can get a decent photo out of any of them !! When is it likely to end ?? Link to comment

I believe it is up to each individual bird, Pretty has been going through a very very slow molt (since December) but that is because our weather is cool here. He still has some spikes on his head, but all his flight feathers have been replaced, he has tail feathers now, and his yellowish coloring is a bright white, but every time I see him fly or poof there goes more feathers. Budgiebird...how do you clean the aviary, broom, or shopvac?....good luck dear! Kirby There is mostly garden in there so no problems there and there is water supply and paths that can be hosed down. You got to worry when fiance Ken (who is a Virgo and a neat freak ) gets in there and painstakingly washes each leaf of the frangipani tree cos its right under the rope perch and the leaves had droppings on them !!! :hap: :hap: :hap: Then he gets the vacuum in there for the excess seed mess. Her cage floor is literally covered in yellow feathers after one day, I change the covering and its the same the next day. One thing I can say she never looks scruffy when moulting my only bird that molts the most and looks perfect, but then she is a lady of course hehe. Link to comment

Seems that there is always one molting. And not one feather stays in the cage - even the big ones. They all fall on the floor. So.... I"m buying an i-robot roomba automatic vaccuum. It is on raincheck right now and I can't wait for it to get here. I've been dragging the central vac out daily to deal with the feathers. Link to comment

Guest Phoebe
:ausb: Shawna, please do tell me how your robot vacuum thingee works out, I have big pieces of paper all over the floor under the cages which I can roll up every few days as I can't vacuum with my fractured ribs and everything is a mess.(7 days until I get a housekeeper). To BB and the rest of you, too bad about the feathers, at least I have to deal with it on a smaller scale, good luck all. Link to comment

I guess its due in on the 11th. My sister has one and loves it. She doesn't have budgies - just 2 little kids that leave lots of crumbs around. Take care of yourself. Hope the ribs heal quickly.
