Guest LC598
Hi, I'm new here. We have had our budgie for 2 1/2 weeks. She is not hand tamed yet, doesn't seem to be going down well. We have let her out twice and both times had to catch her to put her back in her cage. Today she was out for 3 hours and wouldn't go back in. How long does it take for them to learn to go back in? Any tips on training her? :hap: Link to comment
Guest Lin
Hi and welcome. First off, get her finger tame. Put your hand in the cage, when she is calm about it put your hand closer (holding a piece of millett helps). Push gently on her tummy and say 'Up' till she steps on your finger. When she does this well, then start letting her out. Much less stressful if you can get them back in safely. Then have a look at Terri's site for more tips, as well as on here Terri's site Link to comment

Then work with them daily. Also when you let her out of the cage, do it in a small room where she is closer to you and where she can not perch up high . Bathrooms are great just make sure the toilet seat is down. Terri's site is excellent, step by step with consistency and patients. Link to comment
Guest pixie25
Hi and welcome aboard! hope you enjoy it here. you can also use a spare dowel perch to fetch him down from high places. but you definitely should work with him whilst he is in his cage first. congratulations on your new addition!
