Guest BlueSky
Hi again, thanks for all your help with what colour my first budgie was but i have another question... about my current bird. (sorry these gender questions must be getting tiring!) well she (or he) is about 2-3 months old and had a completly blue cere when i first bought her with light blue around the nostrils. And so the budgie breeder told me it was a boy. However lately it looks like some brown is developing under the nostrils. the photos of her here don't quite show the brown enough but it is still visible...so is my guess right and she is a girl? thanks so much! Link to comment

The only other reason why a cere would go blue in a male is if he had a disorder (testicular cancer is one of them) Link to comment
Guest BlueSky
I don't think she could have cancer as she is 4 months old at the most. Shes still a baby (isn't that too young??). I didn't think baby birds could have a full blue (male) or full brown (female) cere if they were so young. this is the best photo i could find to show her cere, all i can say is it was totally blue all over with a much paler blue around the nostrils. its only now that the brown is comming out underneith the nostrils. And i know it was a baby because of the forehead stripes. im very confused :ausb: heres another photo slightly clearer of her cere before it started changing Link to comment

Ask Nerwen or Daz, they are very good with these things Link to comment

It's very probable she had a blue cere when you got her. I go with female too. Link to comment

But the way you stated that s/he had a blue cere and white rings from the time you got him/her leans in favour of a girl becuase young female budgies have that coloured cere while it is the males that have the pink cere that you spoke about.
