Guest AnimalStudent
Don't people eat budgies in australia? Aborigines (sp) i mean? And the only colour budgie you're likely to find in the wild are green ones? Not even a pretty green - a leafy sorta colour... That's cause all the pretty coloured ones got picked off so easily by predators (hey - what's an animal student for, if not useless information, (Laughing out loud)!) Anyhoo - back to topic - you have sooo many birds! I would really love that, but theres no way while i'm living at home and it's take ages to get a foot on the property ladder to get me own place. I'll just stick with Bob and Sky and their ordinary cages for now, (Laughing out loud). *dreaming of a huuuuge aviary* I'd quite like quails in my aviary too... they're funny :bluebudgie: Link to comment

Ive also heard that budgie means "good to eat" which I was horified to learn! *Thanks for your nice comments guys!* About the green wild budgie thing, very true AnimalStudent. You sometimes find a blue one, but thats about all. I have 2 aviaries, and the one in the picture is the smaller one. Im going to take a photo of the bigger one. Quails are heaps cool! They wonder arround and look so cute! I havent put any in my aviaries though :bluebudgie: Link to comment

My birds wouldn't keep any nesting material in the nest box - Rainbow would kick it all out the hole until there was just the wood bottom. In your experience, is that normal? Link to comment

Aborigines (sp) i mean? And the only colour budgie you're likely to find in the wild are green ones? Not even a pretty green - a leafy sorta colour well today I saw two wild budgies up close, like caught and OMG they are stunning!!! Much nicer than the normals found in pet stores and breeders. They were almost half the size of the budgies people own but the green was so clear and the yellow lovely and bright. plus the idea the budgies are good to eat??? Think about it, they size of the bird you would find mostly bones. The effort it would take to catch them in the first place why would they bother??? It was something believed my the settlers and how much of other things have they gotten right? oh and nice pics adam I wish I had the room to have even your 'little' flight cage Edited August 7, 2004 by nerwen Link to comment

Guest Lupper1
Adam, I am floored!!! I am rendered speechless! You, my friend, have it all!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed viewing the photographs and reading all the comments, questions, opinions, etc. It's amazing to see what you have done and how well you care for your fine, feathered friends! I was sad to read about Beedy. He was quite the looker. When I was a child, our budgie, Peter, lived to be 12 yrs. old. Our next budgie, Foxy, lived to be 7, and my new budgie, Foxy, is 3 yrs. old. All the best, and I look forward to seeing any and all updated pictures! Please provide updates of the babies! Cheers! Link to comment

Guest AnimalStudent
You know, it is possible for budgies who live in a good environment to live as long as thirty years (i think that's the longest living budgie on record... or it was last time i looked) As for budgies being too small to eat... if they can eat rats they can eat budgies. Anyhoo... keep the pictures coming! A lot of your budgies seem to have quite unusual markings - must have taken some breeding to get such gorgeous colours! my bob's purple with a yellow head and whitey yellowy tail... i think that's quite unusual too... I sooooo wish i could have an aviary like those Link to comment
