I?m one that always uses books and cards for record keeping until I thought, I have an old 166mhz pc that wasn?t in use and there must be good programs out there that completely manage budgie records. To my success I found one rather quickly entitled "The Budgerigar Program"

Now, this isn?t a free program, it costs $55.00 US dollars for a new installation, BUT there is a trial version (I?m using it) that will hold up 200 records for free. Plenty for some members here. But if you want more, you will have to pay. Its worth it! It does nest box cards, calculations and all kinds of cool stuff! (also allows you to snap a photo of your bird and enter it with your records if wanted.

As mentioned, the Budgerigar Program is very comprehensive. All manner of reports can be run, ranging from simple inventory listings by sex, variety and colour through to preferred pairings and common ancestry. The Budgerigar Program calculates inheritance levels, provides breeding records and generates pedigree charts. Each of these may be viewed on the screen or printed. Other extremely useful features include the provision to score each bird against the "Ideal" in the various areas such as Colour, Size, Deportment, Mask and Spots etc. In theory, this would allow the fancier to do his pair selection without actually looking at the birds themselves - not something I think I would recommend. Feather type is also included as a separate category against each bird.

Some Screenshots:

Here

Take a look at it at this link

and if you want to download the 200 max record trial version (doesnt expire, just alows a max of 200 records of budgies) you can get that here

:ygbudgie:

Hi Adam. I was looking at getting the budgie Program but it will not open on my computer for some reason so I wrote to them and if I buy it and it doesn't work he will refund my money, but it $75.00 US moneybut shipping is in that.

I was also looking at getting the Birdrec Programme from Yorke, Have you heard of that one and have any info on it?

Because birdrec V7cost $119.00 plus $9.50 postage Aust

But I don't know which one to go for as I can't try them, there is also more there is Bird Stud 3.00 Australian and you can get a trial of this one but i still can't down load it, I was able to down load Avimate 3.00 which is for all birds not just budgies but it is only a 30 day trial then if you want to continue it will i think it was $400 or $500 US money and I am not that desperate.

If any one has anymore info on breeding programes please let me know. Cheers Julie

I run The Budgerigar Program and Bird Tracker. You might find Bird Tracker is better if your not showing birds. It will give you the possible results of pairing two birds.

You can also down load a trail free.

Differently the Budgerigar Programme. So easy and its free unless you have more than 2 hundred birds.

Budgerigar Program. I have given up on running two Programs. I find the only draw back is that one can't easily and quickly tell the birds age. It gives you the hatch date but you have to calculate the age your self.

I have spoken to Jeff Stone regarding this and he told me he will look into it for a future upgrade.

seems like the website for the Budgie program isn't working anymore. Did the Tacker one let you download it Lady?

if either work you could set up a database or excel sheet with all the info of your birds.

I got in touch with the person who created the program and he's fixed the evaluation download links now for anyone else needing it... it's working again!!

http://www.geocities.com/budgerigarprogram/TBP2006/DownloadTBP2006Evaluation.html

The evaluation is free up to 200 birds, after that you have to pay for the full version to add any more birds.

Jimmy I run both The Budgerigar Program 2006 and Bird Tracker. I like both but have a tendancy towards The Budgerigar Program.

Ultamately the best program would be to merge the best points from both programs togeather.

1-09.....

My code is my rings. So the first bird is 1W-001-09 next is 1w-002-09 if I buy a bird it could be GDA-001-09 or 3G-001-09

You can code it what ever you want. Always add the -09 as the year of hatching. It works better on that code.

okay so on my hen the code is... CL3 06 004 BCV You wouldn't put down which state the bird is from in the code? you'd just put the CL3 004 and then year (06)?

Okay I just figured it out by emailing the guy that made it. Its a Windows Vista program.

But I dont understand what some of the varietys are. Such as A/P prefix.

Also what does the line choice mean?

I would say a/p might be Australian Pied and the line thing would be something for line breeders to keep track of which line it is apart of...

The colours under the line choice are like a symbol. All budgies from one line could be under black with one stripe. Then budgies from another line could be dark green with red stripe. I use this so I dont inbreed mine, one family is black stripe, another family is black with red stripe.. and so on.
