I buy wood shavings from the stock food place. Personally my budgies don't like nesting material, and Gypsy picked out each wood shaving piece by piece to empty the nest! But I think some do like nesting material. See how your birds go.

What's a stock food place?

I'm guessing my female doesn't like nesting material, coz she picked it all out...but i think it's weird that she would go in there, if she doesn't show signs of wanting to breed.

Where you can buy animal stuff in bulk. Though you don't have to buy bulk. Ours is called City Farmers here in Perth, although there are a lot of smaller places too. You can also buy a lot of animal medications etc. It's usually cheaper than elsewhere, I buy my seed in 40 kilo lots there, but I have a heap of birds! Unfortunately our stock food place also sells birds, and I ended up with a female cockatiel the other day. Darn it. But the poor darling was being pecked heaps by the others and I felt really sorry for it!

I'm not 100% sure that it is a female! Now it's settled in I'm spending some time with her, and she is very young! So, it may turn out to be a male. I think she could be tamed, and it is very tempting. She is so very bright and alert, interested in everything that goes on, and extremely naughty. Her name is Bagdag. Stupid name I know, but my thought was that she could be a mate for my male, who is outside in an aviary. His name is Dagbag, so I thought switching the name around would be a good idea! However, her name is a bit difficult to remember, so it's likely to change soon.

I'm going to try and found out how I work out the age of this bird, because I don't want to breed one that is way too young. Dagbag is about to get his aviary back to himself, (he's currently sharing with budgies) and that's why I got him a friend. I'm hoping that by the time quarantine ends, the new aviaries I am building will be ready to use.

Well, i hope it turns out to be a female for your sake. I'm guessing that's what you want. Why can't you tame her?

Well, even if she's naughty, you can know for sure she's got character!

Hope all goes well, keep me informed of her progress :D

Best wishes!

I'm trying to have some self control, that's why I don't want to tame her (Laughing out loud). Dagbag was a rescue bird, and is not tame, but this new one is so waaaay cute. I have been spending heaps of time talking to her though, and a month is a long time isn't it? I know what will probably happen! Poor Dagbag, looks like you'll be lonely for a while longer!

My budgies are exactly like yours, they are in a breeding cage, with a nestbox only once the female checked the nestbox. When i first had them the male would feed the femal. Now she pecks at the male.
