We have had our 2 male budgies for 3 months now and they were around 8 to 12 weeks old when we bought them from a breeder. They have always been very nervous around us. They come in and out of the cage on their own and fly safely around the room. We have tried to tame them and over the past 4 weeks I have really concentrated on trying to tame them by sitting by the cage and talking and singing to them and putting my hand in the cage with millett around 2 to 4 times a day for 15 to 30 minutes each time. I have got absolutely nowhere , they still panic and fly to the side of the cage and make no attempt to come to me. They cling together and have bonded, but don’t want to bond with me.

i would appreciate any advice, as I am on the verge of giving up.

Thank you.

Hi Pat, I have the same problem. Only had the 2 budgie brothers for 3 weeks (about 4 months old) and every day I put my hand in the cage, with and without food a few times for 10 minutes. Thought I had a break through yesterday when one perched next to my hand to eat. Today, both are avoiding my hand and food and going to the other side of the cage. I knew it would take a while to tame them, but wonder why there is no progress with one and just a little with the other.

All advice is appreciated.
