Hello all!

I got two budgies - Jerry and Charlotte. Jerry is 7, Charlotte is 1. Yes there is a huge age difference! I just want to know if Charlotte is actually pregnant and for any tips for them. They get along good enough. I'm not sure if they mated yet, but I can see a little bulge in Charlotte's belly. I got a nest box for her, but she's terrified of it.

Thanks in advance!

Adam.

Hi,

If your male is 7 years old it is not likely he will produce any babies. Budgies shouldn't breed after 4-5 years of age or before 1 year old. I would suggest removing the nest box from the cage and doing some research before breeding the birds.

If she does lay an egg, you can remove it from the cage so that she can't incubate it

Thanks for replying! But I'm just wondering, why would Charlotte be so fat?

Does anybody know why Charlotte would be so fat? I'm starting to worry about her now. :(

She could be overweight, perhaps lower the amount of seed she eats and also feed her fruit and veg

Just one more thing I'm concerned about Charlotte with, every now and again, she makes a strange coughing / choking noise. It sounds like a human with a hiccups, I haven't a clue what it is. Jerry is just fine :)

BUDGIE L0V3R, would you have any idea on what it might be? You seem to know your budgies very well!

It's hard to say as budgies can make many noises. If she doesn't seem to be in any stress or pain I wouldn't worry about it too much

When she does it she looks very puffed up. Maybe she got a bit of seed stuck? She normally does it after eating

I noticed that she eats a lot of paint of her cage. I hardly imagine it's good for her. Is there any way I could make her stop eating it all together? She's also still very fat, what type of fruit and veg would budgies eat?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Try also adding gumtree branches with leaves on for your birds to chew on. It might give her something more healthy for her to chew on.
