I stopped being a regular on this forum some time around 2009 when I had to sell my Aviary and budgerigars.

Back then this was a thriving community with many experienced and beginner show budgerigar breeders.

From my reading of the forum, they have all gone.

What happened?????

A good question.

I wish I knew the answer. I have always been an infrequent visitor but the old regulars seem to have moved on.

Kind regards

Funny thing, when I left the forum many of the breeders were not happy with the pet budgie people so perhaps that is why they left. If so it os odd that all the pet budgie people have gone as well.

When I get fully into the hobby again I may look at attaching a new forum to my website.

I have been lingering here for a little while now. I check back pretty often for new topics and reply whenever I have anything relevant to say in an attempt to bring life back in again.

I dunno why it's gone down so much. In the end it was just Kaz that was the only experienced breeder and she's admin on quite a few Facebook groups now.

This place is still a wealth of information but I fear that the owners will shut it down one of these days.

Yeah they are budgie related.

I don't really wanna advertise them because I want more people to come here lol. There are heaps but I generally stick to the Aussie ones. Exhibition Budgerigars OZ, Australian Exhibition Budgerigars, KAZ is on some others that are for beginners more advice related ones. There's a mutations group... To many lol. They could all just come here. Half the time when someone posts on 1 they post on about 5 others the exact same thing.

I know what you mean about Facebook but it sure is a growing phenomena. I have two Facebook Groups, not Budgerigar related, and both have over 18,000 members.

Maybe anyone who is members on the Facebook pages could share a link to the forum? Or perhaps the forum could have a corresponding Facebook page?

There's so much information on this forum, would be a shame for it to be shut down...

Thanks Derek

For the link, I'm not necessarily chasing info at the moment, though I was trying to put it out there that any newcomers don't have much of a chance at all seeking assistance through club websites as they don't get replies, I just found out that in 2 weeks time there is an auction, but not advertised (you can't sell birds if no one knows?, also everyone! members of clubs or not should be invited ) you cannot promote if your too scared to allow others in!

I've have been breeding on and off for 30 years (work has restricted me on many occasions, all over Australia) I've noticed that those at the pinnacle tend to sell to other states at massive prices to eliminate competition- what the? aren't we supposed to share knowledge, and promote great quality birds to our peers?

No wonder no young people are interested, they're priced out even with **** birds and no one seems to want to help them out- this shows me that all the mission statements from clubs (now days) do not ring true!

I find this very disappointing, those at the top will stay there, those with money to spare will be okay, those trying to get the bug of breeding a half decent bird will be lost in oblivion.

Anyway I've now stated my case, I live in hope that everyone lifts their game and promotes the fancy with a bit more respect for those less fortunate than ourselves
