How are the other babies doing rachelm?

They are doing really well, thanks for asking Frankiebird. If I get a chance tomorrow I will take some photo's of the chicks. They are feathering up beautifully and there are a few little surprises too.

How are your chicks going rachelm? This is such a great post. Thanks for the info and pictures about the different tail feathers. That is excellent to know. I hope your chicks are healthy and you are happy with how everything is going : )

Well yesterday was about 40c here, so I didn't want to disturb the birds too much by taking photos. Today was much cooler and my daughter and I decided to do a baby budgie photo shoot.

We have bred a total of 30 pet chicks so far round 1 and total 109 show birds most are on round 2.

These two sisters from nest 5. They are 32 and 28 days old.

This is my daughter Charlotte favorite chick. From nest 6, it's a yellowface grey double dom pied. 22days old.

The pretty yellowface cobalt cinnamon hen on the left is from nest 2. She is also 22 days old.

And on the right is a yellowface sky dom pied greywing. From nest 7.

This pretty one is a cobalt spangle AYF or yellow face mutant 2, greywing. Nest 3.

And this is another one of my favorites. AYF cobalt dom pied greywing. Nest 7.

That was 25 out of the 30, the last 5 are still pink.

I think I have hit the limit with the photos, I had to delete 10 before it will let me post.

Those are some very beautiful budgies, I am a fan of the yellow faces especially on the grey wing or spangle body.

I have searched the internet, read books and this site is particularly good. Search posts from RIP BUDGIES or NUBBLY5.

Tragic events today. This hen from pair 3 turned nasty and killed her oldest chick that had just left the nest, scalped and blood everywhere. So I removed her to a cage on her own and have left the cock to raise the remaining chicks. I will keep a close eye that he is feeding them.

More photo's of fledging chicks.

I really love this one. I think its an AYF violet mauve opaline dom pied greywing spangle from pair 2.

They r beautiful! I've lost some birds including my Lutino this month; baby finches pulled from their nest by a female budgie that got through barier. I'm so sad, each bird I lose I cry bitterly for!

Thank you Maz.

I know how you feel. Budgies really can be nasty, vicious killers. It has happened to me once last year, when a hen killed a chick at fledging. I also had a hen that went on a killing spree and scalped two other hens in a holding cage. Not nice to find.

Why do they behave like that? It seems only females do this?!this1 hen got into Finch side +de scalped 2 finches+killed2.the descaped ones died anyway! 1 survived I'll call her Miracle! I always blamed lovebirds but seems culprits r budgies! In all fighting 2 females lost half of their beaks. One has sort of grown back but other 1 seems to stay at a level. Help? Will it ever grow back normal again?

I'm not sure if it will grow back normal. As long as she can still eat, she should be okay.

It may be a good idea to PM Kaz and see what she has to say, she may know a bit more about these problems.

Thanks
