My Aviary

bth_DSC_0885.jpg?t=1377951753I have built a few aviaries over the years and tried to improve on each one as I worked out what were good and bad points as well as what it was I was after as far as ease of keeping clean and how it looked asthetically. To me an aviary is more than just a cage with a few birds in it, I wanted something that was somewhat pleasing to the eye and fitted in to the whole garden picture or was part of the garden so to speak. This is a photo of my aviary which I completed about a year ago now. In time when all the plants grow up around it I am hoping it slowly becomes part of the garden as intended. It measures 4metres long x 2metres deep x 2.2metres high.

Lovely looking aviary, I think you have achieved what you set out to do. Not to nit pick but remember to check your safe plant list, before you plant, in case any leaves etc poke through your wire. :)

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Thanks Robyn, I am aware of toxic plants and have chosen to select plants in any case that when fully grown shouldn't get any closer than around half a metre to the mesh itself. I still want to be able to physically get around the outside of the aviary for maintenance purposes and cleaning. In any case I intend to keep it clear all the way round while still having the garden surrounding it. That's the plan anyway! :D

Sounds great, I've just added a small mulched, self care garden, near my aviary which improves the look a lot.

A few more photos of some of my birds, geez it's hard to get good photos, they don't sit still for long enough! :Dbth_DSC_0903.jpg?t=1378123846bth_DSC_0900.jpg?t=1378123902bth_7d443a3b-47f4-47d2-b402-a080bad0ee01.jpg?t=1378124048bth_DSC_0887.jpg?t=1378124009

Nice birds. I'd love to know how many pics I delete, before getting a reasonable one l.o.l. Thank goodness for digital cameras.
