Flood east of Australia are affecting some of our forum members.

Splat has water lapping nearby and has worries about the safety of her birds and aviaries.

Her last reports .....

The water is coming from the rain and coming down from the broken river, broken creek and the 7 mile creek. but we will be isolated by the end of next week from everywhere. But what hurts the most can't even get to shepp now and our creeks haven't flooded yet.

Friday at 7:04pm ·

FM star radio said that Numurkah is expected to be worse than 93 floods within 24 to 36 hours and then once Numurkah goes under it heads here to Nathalia, so really the worse is to come , much worse

put all birds in holding cages and up high. because Greg said if the levy breaks the birds will drown. Put fridge and freezer on tables etc that's all we can do.. but you should see the town folk all going crazy levy banking, fire sirens going off. we won't get the brunt for a few days let though

we are expecting another metre of water by next weekend. 2.9 something. god it sounds bad., no wonder they are biulding the levy higher

after eh 74 floods they build a huge levy bank to protect the town. it will work great as long as the levy doesn't give and they have been making it higher today

if the levy bank breaks I have 10 minutes to cage my birds and get them to higher ground. I am sure it won't break, surely they will be watching it closely.

our house is safe as long as the bank holds, if it breaks Greg reckons it will go as high as the lounge room windows. that's deep. So that means I need to put the birds up about 4ft off the ground..

most of them are in cages now. when the main water hits here I will cage the rest. there are 18 in the show aviary and about 30 out in the out side aviaries.

put them on all the high benches

‎"At Nathalia the current flood level is about 1.96 metres which was around lunchtime today, or 1pm, and is continuing to rise slowly. We expect it to reach about 2.4 metres late tomorrow and peak around 3.2 or 3.35 metres on Thursday, so a lot of effort is going into Nathalia sandbagging and preparing the leveee for the water to come later this week."

Good luck with the floods Splat and anyone else affected. It's either a feast or a famine isn't it, no happy medium.

fingers crossed the levy's hold and nobody loses their birds or homes.:(

updated news .......http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/numurkah-caravan-park-now-an-island-home-as-floods-ravage-town/story-fn7x8me2-1226289942512

and Splats latest chat last night

The creek has swollen so much unbelievable, I think it has reached 2.4 mt now or more. The ses and town folk have been busy sandbagging and putting up huge barriers, town meeting in the morning at 9.30

the water is not far of the bottom of the bridge which is not good because we will be cut off from the street if that happens.

The shire is very organised though, the barriers they are using have been made since 93 floods I think, Greg reckons he has never seen them, the levy bank near us will probably have the gate constructed tomorrow.

Greg and I have been busy putting everything up. Clear wing has offered to come and pick up birds and take to his place if needed. and has offered us a bed also. GB has too lol but sweetie you are to far away.

But any way Greg's dad reckons we should be fine , in fact he wants to bring his chooks around and fence off the back yard because he reckons he will go under and he is in safer ground that us lol. I just laughed when Greg told me.

But the only way we will flood is if eh levy banks give as the have only had one trial before 93 and the the water was at the top. and the other way is if the water goes over top, but someone told me today the they did make them a bit higher a couple of years back , so hopefully we will be safe. Not like a few houses that have gone under and flooded.

I am going to take some pics tomorrow but I have to admit I am a bit scared to venture out plus the snakes are coming out in their droves, washed out of their homes and it is breeding season so they will be nasty. they have been seen sitting on top of teh levy banks today. scary. any way that is my rant for today.

Good luck Splat, I'm hoping the levys wont break, and I hope that as they make the levy higher, they make it wider, otherwise it definitely wont work, if they're not building it wider as well, make sure you mension it to them :)

I could just imagine that, going up to the people building the levy bank

& saying to them. That's not wide enough.

Splat,I hope the water doesn't go over the Levy & you are safe & dry.
