Do I Have A Double Factor Spangled, Or An Albino Bird?

Recommended Posts

I got this bird recently. She has red eyes (or plum eyes? I don;t know what plum eyes are and haven't been able to compare). I am assuming she is under 4 months old as she was housed in the cage with birds that had baby bars.

Upon closer inspection, I could see very lightly coloured stripes/baby bars on the head, and some markings on the wings. As far as I know, albinos are all white (unless a bird is a lacewing, but then the markings are brown?)

So I am not sure if she is a DF Spangled or Albino because there are faint markings and red eyes.

If you look carefully at the next picture, you can see baby bars on the head.

Double factor spangles dont have red eyes so she is albino. At hatching double factor spangles have plum eyes for a brief time, just a few days, but your birds eyes are red and that makes her albino. The light body and head markings can show through on some albinos in certain light conditions.

I agree with Kaz, and also, when I look closely at the "markings" in the photos, they actually look like they might be shadows made by the tip edges of the individual feathers.

Yes, your bird is a baby, she has no iris rings yet. :)

Wow, what a nice bird! I am sure I can see a faint yellow glow on some pics? I saw some albinos at a pet store recently, and they had the same effect but blue?
