okay my problem is.

I have a white df spangle paired with a grey opaline spangle.

white df spangle parents and grand parents are........................

white df spangle cock..................x..................grey cinnamon spangle hen

.......x.......................................................................x.

yellow DF spangle cock x cobalt spangle hen...............grey green spangle cock x sky spangle hen

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Now the grey opaline spangle hens parents and grand parents are...........................

Yellow Df spangle cock................x......................Lt Green opaline hen

x............................................................................ x..

grey green spangle cock x sky spangle cock...................sky opaline cock x Lt green normal

They have 3 chicks. I would assume blue series or grey right but I have

2 white df spangles and 1 yellow df spangle.

Now what I want to know is this possible because the hen is grey and there is green in the back ground.

I have over a heap of chicks from this hen in the last couple of years and never a green series bird when put to a blue series bird.

any help would be most appreciated and thank in advance,

Neville are you there, you are great with genetics.

As long as you can rule out fostering then the only likely answer is 'atavism', also known as 'reversion' or 'throwback'. It is the tendency for an organism to revert back to ancestral type.

Why I am asking is because I did have 3 foster eggs in there and 2 hatched but they were the last 2 for sure and they died at a couple of days old. Well the smallest 2 died and I assumed they were the foster chicks anyway.

The foster chicks parents are green series and spangles.

The the yellow df spangle chick is the oldest and the biggest and the first one I rung.

But looking at them today I am sure they belong to this nest I am asking about because they seem to have a narrow heads, the foster chicks should be super babies really, from 2 of my best birds. BUT then it is really a bit early 2 tell I guess.

So RIP it can be a throw back but it doesn't happen often right.

I actually hope it is a foster chick because they are the chicks I really want.

In that case I am extremely happy Chooky but I still don't understand how the last 2 chicks that hatched were the foster chicks because the eggs were marked in big black writing, and those 2 died and the yellow one is the biggest of the 3 that hatched in that nest.

So maybe if it is the foster chick then it is going to be big because look how it has passes the other 2 and it has to be at least 5 days younger.

But I thought it might be something to do with the grey op spangle because both her parents are the green series.

Chicks don't all grow at the same rate, especially in a nest with fosters, so the biggest chick may not be the oldest.

A grey bred from green parents won't have inherited any green series genes

Atavism is probably a lot rarer than the appearance of new mutations

Well that is what I thought, I thought impossible , well actually I am over the moon because I have a chick that I really wanted badly.

actually when the 3 chicks hatched from the nest they were very very small, so really it all makes sense.

Thank you all that replied, really appreciated the great advice.

and I am over the moon because my family or line continues after having such a rotten year loosing over 90 deaths of little chicks. and my white boy.
