I have coated a birds leg in oil before, then try the two toes forward two toes back method.

I have had it work for me.

Good luck

Also dipping the leg in vinegar apparently constricts the blood vessels making a skinnier foot and leg for rings to go on. .....so they say

If the vinegar thing is true, as soon as you get the leg ring on, wash off the vinegar

i am thinking that the vinegar draw the fluid out of the leg, making it thinner. I am not too sure how that would work, as it is always the lump of the foot that causes the problem, where the toes all meet the foot/leg/ankle that causes the problems. never a fat leg issue -

I am in the same boat as you , I did ring my dark green but his leg swelled up so had to cut his ring off at 4 weeks and boy his he a nice bird. It's a shame because I can't show him now and he is as good as the 2 I won the shields with , well almost. Not as long as the blue though but he is going to be handy with a or not.

You'll be able to show him as an Adult Splat, just not as a this year's young bird.smile.gif

Place the leg in iced water for a few seconds, making sure the foot is totally clean, then pull the ring on. be brave you may graze the middle[fat part] of the foot, but it will heal in two days. I have done this many times even with chicks that have left the nest and are perching. This is NOT braking any rules as the rule states "the bird must be owner bred and rung" cheers Clearwing

Place the ring next to the bird, then visualise the ring going on the bird.

Just seen this Splat.smile.gif

Well you can in WA. In the Adult Class - whether it is an Adult or not. Although most people wait till their non rung bird has matured and if it is any good will then show it.

Don't let this non-ring event happen to you. Remember the chorus of the following for advice next time:
