My friends bird went back today but Kenny seemed very happy to be free, singing away. I have put him back in his cage now - by holding the cage up for him to jump into . I'm intending to let him fly free in the room all the time eventually when I have him hand tamed but just going to let him out for a few hours for the time being. Does it matter what time of day I was to let him out? Link to comment

That way he'll want to go back to the cage to eat. Budgies usually eat in the morning and late afternoon/evening. Their rest time in nature is in the heat of the day. If you keep up the finger taming training regularly - several times a day for about 5/10mins - you should be able to hand tame him reasonably quickly. Link to comment
