Hi Everyone,

Just got a new budgie and want some help sexing him/her. We think he/she is about 6-8 weeks and are hoping its a boy.

We've had a budgie in the past who was a lovely boy but unfortunately passed away over a year ago.

If you think its a girl, can you advise how female budgies are as pets? Should I feel disappointed? Will they talk any less than the boys, is there any major differences we can expect?

Thanks,

Jo.

Sorry justplainnuts I didn't read the rest of your post before.

I've tamed many baby budgies over time and although I know a few people here will disagree I have found boys to be more pliable and willing pets than females and GENERALLY males bond better and talk better than females as well. Females TEND to be more aggressive and aloof. That's not to say that female budgies will not make great pets and I'm sure there are some out there that buck the GENERAL trend. But starting young you have the best chance of success. Check out all the threads on hand taming and you'll pick up some ripper tips.

their is no different in their ability to talk

male or females

the end result is the time spent with the bird however hens can get cranky and like their own space at times

but persistence and love will win over

tammy was a hen houmans chick

as was a few others ive tamed for people on this sight

no differences bar a bit more out spoken

Thanks for all the replies, I wanted to give you an update on little Missy.

She's doing very well, is very affectionate and a fast learner.
