This year is my first REAL season into breeding. Last year I was still doing pretty colours, and a couple show pairs. I have acquired more breeding cages as well. Right now, I have my first 6 cages down. I am getting another set of 4 sometime in the next couple of days as well! I am really looking forward to the chicks I am going to be getting this season. It would have been a few weeks ago now, I put down 2 pairs. Pair 1: Opaline Sky Blue/Fallow hen X DF Violet/Fallow Cock (Blue and Black Ring) Really keen on this pair. They had eggs, never been fertile past season. I am happy to say they are on 5 eggs (I think the hen has stopped laying now...) and they are starting to go pearly white First egg layed Thursday 21st. Pair 2: Opaline Sky Blue Cinnamon (Parents: light green cinnamon/blue X light green opaline cinnamon/blue cock) X Yf Sky Blue/ TCB (Blue and Green( I think...) Ring) I will be mindful some of the cocks will be split TCB, not ideal. I am really trying to get YF Sky into my flock. This is a first time mum, and very proud to say she is one of my own! She isn't much visually, her dad was incredibly good though. They are on 5 eggs of their own, plus on foster egg (I will explain later) They also started laying on the 21st. I then put another 3 pairs down. Pair 3: YF Sky Cinnamon Cock X Sky Cinnamon Hen (Red and Black Ring) Another pairing for the YF Sky's. The cock is a Steve Jaffer bird, and the hen is 50% Jaffer. So a blood pairing as well, one of my first's. The hen laid one egg off the perch, which I stupidly put into my other yf sky cinnamon clutch. I should have put it in the fallow nest. But, I then realised that unless the cock bird from pair 1 is split cinnamon (which i am fair sure he isn't) then I will know if it is there chick. The hen also laid a second egg the next day, on the floor again. I put it in her nest box, as she goes in there. It has mysteriously disappeared however, not something I am to happy about..... Pair 4: Opaline Grey-Green Clearbody Hen (Parents: Violet Opaline TCB Hen X Grey-Green Opaline Clearbody Cock) X Sky Blue TCB Cock ( Blue and Black Ring) This hen's mother is also mentioned further down. I am very excited on all my clearbody pairing's, but once again especially this hen as she is one I bred myself. I love the amount of suffusion on the hen, and the cock's isn't the worst I have seen! Pair 5: Light Green Cock X Opaline Spangle Dark Green/Blue Hen (Blue and Blue Ring) very,Very excited on the pair! The hen is one of my best birds, and still only a blue ringer. Both untried. They are currently on 4 eggs, the 4th being laid today. The hen is a bit skittish and wanted her eggs back. So the picture is a bit funny, so I included one from when she was about 4 months old. The cock has very good width across the head, in bone as well as feather. Sorry the pictures aren't great! (better one of cock and hen from pair 3) And this pair I only put down last week on Saturday. The cock bird is borrowed from a breeder, he show's his clearbodies at national level. Pair 6: Opaline Sky Blue/Clearbody Cock X Violet Opaline TCB Hen (Purple and Blue Ring) The clearbody hen from pair 4's father is also a bird I had from the breeder. This cock bird is only on loan though. He is a flipping purple ringer as well! He is the longest bird I have ever seen. The hen is also a very nice bird, but has somewhat deteriorated since I bred here, which I think comes form being a young bird when I bred her. She has the genetics in her though. She looks tiny compared to the cock. No eggs as off yet obviously. Sheer length of the bird Head touches top of cage, tail touches floor. Hope you enjoyed, will keep you updated! Link to comment

I hope I will surprise myself as well GB! Update: Pair 2 is now on 7 eggs, one a foster from Pair 3. I will be transferring one of the most developed eggs over when I get a chance to candle them, to Pair 1 who has stopped laying at 5 eggs. Me, in all my stupidness, have not marked any eggs >.> Hen from Pair 3 (the magician who makes eggs dissepear) is still sitting, which is good. Her cock bird has completely ruined all of his feathers. I am not sure what to do. He has plucked his chest half bare in one day. This has happened once before... I am trying to remember when. It was either when he was in the breeding cage with another hen, who died (if I remember correctly) or when he went to a show. The stress of it I think. He just pulled everything out, and shredded his tails and flights. Just once, and then they grew back. I am thinking I will leave him in there, and if he must he will wait until he returns to the aviary. I don't want him to do it to any chicks though.... and the worry of him getting cold. First egg not looking fertile, to early to tell though I guess .I may use her as a foster, as it looks like I will have full nests. The cock bird is still mangling himself. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd279/Squeak_Crumble/DSCF1058.jpg Pair Four: Zilch. Cock bird goes in box, and they are bonded. Just need to wait I guess. Pair Five: 6 eggs! 4 look fertile, newest two not old enough to tell I guess. (top 3 and one of the bottom ones) Pair Six: Hen is nesting alot, eggs soon I am hoping! Link to comment

Today I put another 4 pairs down, as well as swapping the hen from Pair 4, as the hen was not nesting or being receptive to the cock birds very....excited actions. Most of these pairs have two photo's, as in most the hen will show her head and blow, and then the cock after.... sigh. Pair 7: Opaline Grey-Green Clearbody Hen (Parents: Violet Opaline TCB Hen X Grey-Green Opaline Clearbody Cock) X Light Green Opaline TCB. Cock This hen is sister the the hen who I removed because she wasn't nesting. She has a sore foot from were she got in a squabble with another hen over an egg in the aviary, but it is just sore. I will be making sure she doesn't damage it mating. As you can see, she is pretty prepared for it already All ready for eggies! Pair 8: Grey-Green Hen X Sky Blue/Violet Cock Just a normal pairing, as I need to get some more normals. Nice solid hen to lengthy cock bird. They are being very romantic, and the cock bird already has got the hen to work making sure he looks his best.. Pair 9: Grey-Green TCB Hen X Lutino Cock This cock bird is pretty old, an orange ringer. I am hoping he will still fill some eggs, he filled them last season but they were DIS, with the hen from the above pair. Weather was funny then. This Hen doesn't have the nicest suffusion, so just trying to get the nice clear colour through her. Pair 10: Lutino Hen X Opaline Grey-Green Cock I had the most horrible time trying to decide between the sky cock or him for pair 8. I ummed and ahhhed for nearly half an hour, swapping and fiddling. Finally decided on this though. Mainly because the lute hen has a nice solid outline, and a bit of body to her. She has width of head as well, which will improve the cock's slightly skinnier frame. This cock bird is superb for photo's and displays like a dream, as you can see. But not the best when I am trying to capture his faults! lol. (funny outline) Pair 11: Sky TCB Cock X Lutino Hen Just to improve on his minor suffusion. Link to comment

I am surprised how quickly they took to it. Chicks were meant to start hatching yesterday, nothing as of yet. Will do a quick candle on eggs from pair 3 (cinnamon blues) as she had her fourth egg today. Just wanna see how egg one is developing, they aren't looking fertile.... Also, the violet and sky cock have one egg! I am not to worried about the chicks not hatching on time, as I know some eggs are fertile, and that chicks don't always hatch to plan (as the hen's incubate after egg 2 or 3 sometimes) Link to comment

I assume it is the egg from the other nest I fostered, I forgot to mark it though, so I don't know. Pair 3: (cinnamon blues) 4 clears. Not counting yet though, because some of them aren't old. Pair 4: scratched... Pair 5: (spangle X normal) 6 fertile eggs! Happy Happy Happy Happy Happy! Pair 6: way to early to tell, first egg today. I am kind of glad that the others didn't have full eggs, so they can foster, but I would have preferred one or two chicks from each rather then just in the two nests. Link to comment
