While Ive been gone the person looking after my budgies adbised me that over a 2 day period he found 30 of my 40 budgies dead on the floor. It was late June. Can anybody tell me if there were similar experiences. Link to comment

Some people think they have food when all they have is husks. Does water, rain and cold wind get in ? If so coccidiosis is a possibility. Has he taken any bodies to the vet for autopsy ? The feed is in large hoppers that they generally have no trouble getting food from and he was checking them every second day. So I am confident that this wasn't the issue. . The aviaries are 2 thirds roof and sides and 1 third open wire. So there are areas open to the elements but Ive had the aviaries for about 5 years now in the same spot and never had an issue of this nature. Some family suggested it may have been the extreme weather that was on at the time but again that has happened before and I have no issues. . He didn't take them to a vet for testing. Link to comment

I am not sure that we have had any extreme weather. We have had a lot of cold periods, colder than the last couple of years, but it has been the direst start to July for many years, so rain is not an issue. I lost one bird today, but saved another. The cold is affecting some but there is nothing major going on in terms of Sydney weather that would account for this. Maybe there was some form of infection in your aviary, mouse droppings or such?
